Well, in anticipation of the movie I decided to to this painting. I recently went to a gallery show for Canadian Artist Tony Scherman. Google search for his stuff, you wont be disapointed. I was so inspired by the work I wanted to attempt painting encausticly. Hellboy became the subject. I went to the local store and bought a bunch of crayons and candles and melted them and while hot painted with it. It is a cool process. I plan on doing more. If you want to see some progress shots go here...... http://www.vigourianproductions.net/hellboy/hellboy.html

Haha..what an absolutely wacky idea. Turned out pretty cool. Must be a real bitch trying to "paint" like that. And messy too. From those WIP shots that looks pretty big...how big is the actual piece? |

Thanks man, yeah it was a bit of a pain. it taught me a little more about slapping down colour instead of blending and mixing....etc. the piece is acutally 6 ft by 4 ft. _________________ ICQ # 84220724

That's pretty cool man. I'm a big fan of Encaustic painting.
A word of warning though, the fumes from melting wax is very toxic, particularly if you are mixing it with solvents ( Which is the traditional way of doing it ). I don't want to scare you away from doing it, but just be well aware of ventilation and whatnot as it can be very bad for you.
Keep it up though, nice hellboy and I love the texture. _________________ -----------

keating- cheers!! Acutally I was only using crayons and candle wax. No solvents. Most of the time I was melting on a low temprature. Do you know of any resources or links for me to check out? _________________ ICQ # 84220724

I used to have a manual all about Encaustic techniques when i was in School. I'll see if I can dig it up for you. Also, all melting wax is toxic as far as I understand, just to lesser or greater degrees ( Yes, even scented candles, etc ). So just be careful.
Anyway, I'll see if I can find something for you. It's a great technique. _________________ -----------
