Hey everyone, just thought i would post my latest piece.
Its part of a series of fantasy creatures that i am working on for my gf's bedroom (she's framing them), and all of them use a different color scheme depending on mood and creature...
I've been workin on this dragon on and off for about a month. Finally got around to finishing it! Very Happy YAY

*EDIT*

Thanks to everyone for their feedback! i made some changes (mainly to the horns and facial structure) and im quite pleased with how it looks now.

any further comments/crits are appreciated! Very Happy

Its cool! the lightning is awsome and the overall colors aswell...
And the fire is cool too,it realy smacks you in the face.
But I think the mouth is "too wide" and maybe too open? it feels strange looking at it,if the lower-fang(?) is gonna be that open and stretch, then i think you should fix the rest of the face so that it blends in.
But except that,good work!!!

I think there's something off weith the horns. The right ones (for him) bend out more the the left ones... I think the perspective is a bit off.

Great metelic look though, I love the intense colorscheme!

thanks alot for the feedback guys Very Happy

varg: i see where youre coming from, however, with the jaw, i wanted to make it look as if the dragon had to open it really really wide in order to blow fire. i actually tried a bunch of different sized openings, and that one was the best Smile

legolas: i see it, damn shoulda noticed that earlier. ill fix it when i get some spare time Wink

This is really good, but I think it would have much more depth and impact if you changed up the color scheme a bit. The reds and yellows work great around the fore, but if toward the back you had it kind of fade to greens and blues as it gets further from the flame, maybe with some cool shadows, it would make everything pop a lot more.

that backlighting totally takes away the edge of the piece.

in the original, it's like you feel you're in a furnace. yours makes me feel like it's a cold night and someone's lighting a campfire. :/ not as powerful.

Yeah, you're right, it definitely isn't nearly as intense and angry as the original. And I didn't read the info thoroughly the first time, but you were using a different color scheme for each to convey a specific mood. In that case, yours all the way.

It looks like that dragons' lower jaw has been broken and twisted... Not to mention that beast seems to puke its fire... you couldn't make it open its mouth any wider, could you? Upper- and lower jaw don't really fit together and the amygdala should probably better follow the general alignment of that dragon's head (in other words, be rotated a lill' bit). But hey, overall it's a sweet pic that could get even better with some extra-work put into it.

thanks for all the feedback guys....
im working on the changes right now...
however, im not quite sure what you guys mean by "original"?... i havent edited this post or posted a dragon prior to this one. so this one wud be considered the original... Confused

im a bit confused hhaha..

anyways, ill see what i can do about the jaw, and i already altered the left horn (which i havent posted yet) and maybe i can do something about that background Wink

thanks. Very Happy

There is something wrong with the eye too. It is looking at us, when logic would dictate it be looking at where the fire is going. I don't now, just my opinion. It's as if someone called to it and it looked over while still shooting the fire.

MCnasto: I had posted a quick paintover involving cool backlighting and shadows against the back wall, but it really didn't work as well as your original.

I think the problem with the head isnt so much the horns, but rather the eye facing us (his left) is on a different perspective plane than his right eye based on what we can see. His left is also out of alignment with his snout/skull. You need to take the upper back edge of his left eye area (back by the horns) and push it 'into' the picture a bit (like you were movin gthe back edge closer to his brain)
either that or move the ridge on his snout to the right a bit, i think that might work almost as well Smile

i would try to do a simple paintover, but im on my laptop

Other than that, awesome...breathtaking...

fire...hehehe
fire is cool
