I believe that any artist should be free in what he makes. If someone likes to paint naked people and it makes him feel better then that is what he should do.
It's their choice and I am not offended by it.
What is most pathetic is that you need to either be mcmullins or put something sex related in your header to ever get any replies to your work.
As for a painter who draws the same apple all of his life. There is also a carpenter who makes the same chair all of his life. He becomes very good at it. It's craftmanship.
I find it so much more interesting to study people like Turner, van Gogh and many like them who took art a step further and changed the way people look at art forever.
So for the people who get stuck with a certain subject and stick with it...Fine by me. It just won't make them great artists...well usually not.. |

I'm guilty of posting only nude material, but then again I'm not big on the whole "art" thing.. It can get too serious.. I draw for fun and post here only for feedback.. Nude, violence, war.. you see it every day on the tv.. but you don't have to turn it on in the first place.. If you don't like it -skip it..
But in all seriousness there is something "else" happening when people are nude.. people are stripped of social status and are more equal in some ways - and then again different values come into the equation - physical beauty etc..
Am I making sense? |

Putting something like NUDITY or SEX in the topic heading - when there's nothing like it in there - in order to get more comments, is not only dishonest and pathetic but plain silly and counter-productive - I'd imagine a lot of people would hesitate to reply in such threads. I personally have never replied in one, and I don't think I ever will, manipulative dishonesty turns me off. |

To be completely honest, I own books like Drawing the head and figure by Jack Hamm and Figure Drawing for all its worth by Loomis and I have the Draw magazines at work... all of which go into great detail about the human nude figure... i love those books.. they are the boos that helped shape my drawing.
All Im saying is that Ive noticed alot of people posting more and more nudity and not taking any steps beyond. thats all. |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! To hell with reasons for nudity. Im gonna go pick on some smaller art kids and hot box a horse, maybe give him some E.
But really, tasteless nudity is lame but i think the female body is gorgeous. Cant speak about male nudity, but most pictures with females without clothing are more appealing to me. Then again im only 18 and my mind has 2 modes. Get laid mode and get through college mode. When the 2 mix i get the best results. |

Protestation of innocence, paraphrased from a comment by Bob the Newt:
Rats. I paint rats.
....naked rats?

One artist on EK paints nude men that have a slender female-like figure. Interesting effect because you appreciate the form art-wise but it clearly isn't trying to be sexual.
Socar - A nude rat? Would it look like Dr Evil's Mr Bigglesworth? |

I only skimmed the above posts so excuse me if I repeat something that's already been said...
I think there are two primary reasons why nudity is such a popular theme in art. Well I don't think there are only two, but there are two that I'm going to elaborate on. One is that everyone loves sex, and society flaunts it so much that it's become the focus of mankind. I'm sure I don't need to elaborate on the prevalence of sex in society, but I think that many artists exploit this mindset to get their work more exposure. They know sex sells, and they work accordingly. Another reason is for their own personal gratification. Too many artists paint with their crotches rather than their minds or hearts or whatever else it is that the devoted artist supposedly paints with. Of course, they don't literally paint with their crotch, or I hope they don't, but they seem to be only interested in art as a means of their sex drive. They obsess over sex, or are frustrated by their inability to obtain it, and use their "artwork" to gratify themselves sexually.
I'm sure there are many other reasons as to why sex is such a common theme - lack of inspiration, practice in anatomy, or a genuine appreciation for the human form - but I would say that the two primary reasons mentioned above are mainly responsible for the state of the Gallery. |

why is everyone so obsessed with nudity?
one word: BOOBIES!!!!
ehh... actually that's closer to the truth than we'd like to believe, with pin-ups and porn inspiring trashy nudes from the young or stupid (or both) |

Oh but steve you turn me on and thats the HONEST truth heheeh kidding
Ummm Take Fallen for egsample, he is FASCINATED with female beauty and his pinups are very elegant and sexy.
I personally have to really like looking at something in order to wan't to paint it and well females rawk...especially when they are naked....
so...i sit...and i paint...oooh look we have a boobie isnt that so sweet? like an ever so finely crafted chalice.
Nudity/anatomy is a very important aspect of painting/drawing and well....who will ever get tired of looking at the opposite sex? or same sex if you swing that way.
