hey, i just wanted to see what people here do for starting digital pictures. personally i like to sketch it on paper first to work out the important shapes and details and then re draw it from scratch on the computer. |

I either draw entirely on paper or go straight for the computer.
But it doesn't work for me so I didn't vote _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Though I still use traditional media all the time, if I'm going to make a digital image I start it on the computer. There's not much point to doing otherwise, unless you're going for some kind of cool traditional media effect that you don't think your program of choice is capable of. If you don't feel that you have as much control with the tablet as you do with a pencil, you should just practice more. I think it's obvious from the posts here that it's possible to use a tablet as effectively as a pencil. |

yeah, its not so much about controll for me, i start compeletely over on the computer. but if i do the lineart twice i have a better understanding of the really important elements, i dont trace over the sketch on the comp, but i just look at it while i am redrawing. and i just like to work a few things out before going for the computer |

Though I only started this method this year Iv been doing the Computer-print-hand draw-scan-computer. Why? I do the outline on the computer first because making correction to the anatomy is easier when all I have to do is mask off the area and lengthen/shorten. I have more experience drawing with pencils than I do with Photoshop and drawing detailed pictures with pencils tend to go much quicker for me. Then I scan them and use the pencil as the base for all shadows for the digital work.
This was my first attemp at the technique. _________________ Kevin Moore
