Thank you mari. I think I know the one you mean. I guess I have done so many with a girl and a sword Embarassed

Zhuzhu- quite welcome.

Mon, thanks! Uh that one you pointed out. I would be interested in hearing why you think it is different. It is a little more gestural and rounded in the shapes, with the shadows going very dark, lotsa contrast. Hmmm. I think I said it looked like a velvet painting over a bar, hehe. You like it? Can you be anymore specific? I be intriguedYour sketch there looks great, just looks like you lost patience at the end, or you knew the bell was going off, Like me sometimes.

Ballistic! That is my favorite painting from you.

Trying to apply what little I learned from the last one to the next one.

spooge> um.. I'll try to be coherent here, not easy Smile I see a lot of struggle in that image, and a searching, tentative approach. no eye-candy, not much anyway. And the area around her hip and stomach, yummy! the good ol' cool-warm contrast really does wonders there, as well as the brushwork. and take a look at the left shoulder. I'm not sure exactly what's going on there, but I think it has to do with the shoulder being almost completely flat, in stark contrast to the curve of the breast.

and lots of problems unresolved Wink I love that stuff, when parts of the construction shows through, and when a slight error is balanced out by another one. two wrongs make a right. the muddy colors on the girl saved by an assault of red on the cape.

I luv it Smile

EDIT: yeah you're right, I kind of lost focus when things started to deviate from what I was aiming for. Wouldn't have been right to go down that other road, and I ended up with a compromise (=never a good thing)

xia> thanks!

gotta post something...

HPX, I love the brush strokes in that one.
This was done from a photo, which explains the stilted nature of his right arm.

Such inspiring stuff from everyone! I'm still trying to develope a painting style through digital. It's kinda hard when I haven't really traditionaly painted. Next semester I think I'll get my feet wet! I had Fredflickstone help me harmonize my colors. His digital painting class this semester was awsome!

Spoooge, overall, I reall enjoy that last piece. I do think that all the seperate areas of light tend to fragment the composition a bit. Maybe it would be more effective were you to vary the values in your highlights, and lessen the contrast of the background to convey a little more depth?
This was a really stupid thing to do, but I touched a few areas on your painting to try and show you what I mean: http://www.artpad.org/gallery/storage/finished-work/spooge.jpg
I know I'm like 4th grade peewee football bench warmer critiqueing priest holmes, so I guess I'm doing this with the nebulous hope that you'll actually tell me I'm right.

Cake eye, I'm really loving your most recent piece.

very nice indeed matthew, if i were going to render this i wouldn't do too much to it, maybe add a little depth to the ground by adding a few burning huts, people, add some clawy legs and fire, lots of fire Smile, the guy needs a little tweaking but here's 5min worth, nice image man

*edit* it'd probably help composition wise to shift him a bit to the left too Smile, just idea's though, just what i'd do Very Happy

mouse + photoshop + 3 hours

Love everyone's work. I check this thread several times a day, but don't comment since I don't want to damage the signal-to-noise ratio. But now that I actually contributed something I can give you all the credit you deserve. Please keep it up Smile

swearing over my first time playing with painter, and it's incredibly silly "instant impressionist" brushes.

a night like this deserves something cheezy. sigh.

OMG SHOCKING PR0N ARO00000OOO000011111!!1111!11!!!!!!!!

(This is...er...you know, a "tribute" to a certain thread in the discussion forum, and the distorted way some people seem to view nudity/erotica.)

Feel free to, you know, laugh your collective arses off at me.

Socar: you harlot.

This is what happens when I can't loosen up. I dilligently mask things off and end up with a picture so flat it collapses spacetime.

You could calibrate highly exotic scientific equipment using only the flatness of this composition as reference point for absolute two-dimensionality.
