No, no photo used at all. I painted it in layers and added some motion blur to the foremost ones. I wasn't happy with the results I was getting using just the built-in motion blur filter, so what I did was copy a layer and paste it back in a bunch of times at a low opacity, shifting it horizontally as I went. "Manual" motion blur, I guess you could call it.

I just thought about it when I saw the moon, and have you ever tried taking a photo of the moon? Because if you do, the moon will look small as a dot. Not that it doesn't look real on your pic, 'cause it really do.

yes back in photoshop cause artrage keeps hanging up on me, snif. 
Still I like photoshop the best of the softwares anyway so it's all cool.

I use photos from various sources (alt+tab usualy)
But always separate reference and imagination... u know.. :)
