*breathless voice* "This painting is so beautiful. Look at the details here. Ah, the picture of the tundra is represented perfectly. The colors are amazing. Ah, beautiful *sigh*."
That was close to exactly what a guy in my class said in a presentation on a really crappy (and it was, too, I'm not exaggerating) wax crayon and watercolor painting. Thing is, it was his own.
Don't you find it annoying when people do things like that, talk about whatever as if someone else did it, saying how great whatever it is is, when it's not great? or just when people make known that they think everything they do is the best, perfect, everything else pales by comparison?
It might be that I just don't like the guy...no, wait, I don't like him because of that attitude/ego/whatever you want to call it.
*creeps off muttering about idiots and their egos* |

... even worse is the moment when you find out that guy makes 750 per finished piece. His dad owned an art gallery.
This happened to me. All the time I was thinking I could do better than that. You know the kind: wrong proportions, clich subjects... grmbl. |

Luckily, this guy is in grade 8 and makes no money (that I know of). |

Have you never been satisfied about your own works? I believe you must have once in a while, and there is nothing wrong with that. Maybe you think it is really good, or maybe you just don't want to feel bad. I've been very satisfied about some of my paintings at times, and I've tore up some also, but I just don't know what's wrong with being happy about what someone achieved? Perhaps it's annoying to hear someone else say that, but maybe you are unconsciously doing them yourself sometimes.
"Let" him keep drawing, and he'll eventually become a better artist. Burst his bubble, and he might give up art. If his work is really that bad, I'd just keep my mouth shut about it and laugh at him secretly. Now that doesn't hurt anyone, unless he is psychic. |

He's not an artist, or trying to be one. I just used him as an example of people who think they're better than everyone and everything else because I had a specific instance his attitude showed through. This guy's attitude toward everything is always the same: "I'm the best, everyone else sucks." I don't personally care what he wants to do. I very rarely talk to him.
I find the rest of the people I know and don't like have that same attitude.
Oh, yeah, the painting was for a book report. |

I really don't like when people tell me how good something looks that I've done. A nice compliment is okay, but overemphasizing just really annoys me. "It's AMAZING!" or "Wow, I Just DON'T KNOW how you do it."
And I definately couldn't stand someone doing this with one of their own images. If it was amazing, well MAYBE, but if it's not that great then he should at least be able to see what needs improvement. Or perhaps someone to push him in the right direction.
