Yeah. They broke a $230 window and took all of $10 worth of loose change.

Oh crackheads, what won't you do?

Did you get a new window or is your car now one with those stylish plastic foil windows?

I managed to find a glass place that had one in stock. Subarus aren't that common out here, so I guess I lucked out . . . the guy who installed it was mesmerized by the USB flash drive I had on my keychain.

"What the hell kind of key is that?"

Then he asked me how fax machines worked. I told him I didn't know.

It's just a scanner/printer that makes,
sends, then prints a low resolution, black
and white(1bit) PCX file.

If you have a graphics application of some sort
it must handle .PCX files. ...well, that's all a fax
is... only at 200 dpi.

I'm pretty sure the new ones still send PCX format.
There are too many old fax machines out there
that wouldn't work if they didn't. Although some of
the newer ones can send/receive at higher resolutions
and some in color.

Damn dude - that was your car? Sorry!

Seriously tho' . . . I am very sorry to hear about it. Let me guess: You work at Macquarium and was parked down there near midtown when a chumpass street turd scored $10 off your $250 window.

Let me take you to the Highland Tap; first round is on me; hopefully that'll ease your pain.

Hang tough,

tc

Actually it happened at my apartment complex up by Clairmont and Briarcliff.

The lack of shock expressed by the property manager when I told her about it suggests to me that I ought to find someplace else to live when my lease is up.

Sending you a PM . . .

Sorry to hear about that. I know how you feel.

Last February, I walk out to my car to go to work and for some reason, my car seems low to the ground. Odd. Then I realize, that's because IT HAS NO WHEELS and the car's frame is resting on some spare donut tires that were stolen out of my apartment neighbors' cars. My rims weren't custom or anything, but they were aluminum, so some racers probably decided they wanted an extra set of rims that they could thrash. My car's a VW Golf, but they also hit several of my neighbors cars, all Honda Accords. They'd swipe a taililight here, a sidedoor mirror there, etc.. It is sickening ridciulous how much a replacement set of factory rims and tires are too.

Ah the Highland Tap . . . located at the intersection of North Highland and Virginia Ave, NE. The dinner menu is stellar but not for the light wallet ($18 - $28 per entree); however, the weekend brunch (served till 3:30) is reasonably priced ($4 to $8 per), well stacked and delicious.

The "Tap", as it's commonly referred to, is famous for Martini Thursdays, and there's plenty of beer both in draught and bottle. My wife and I lived one block away during the school years and spent our Sundays in the bar studying while sipping beer (me) and mimosas (her).

Ah good times . . . good times indeed.

That sucks, man. I had my car broken into and they pinched my bag from it. There wasn't anything valuable in it, just a CD case with the only copies of my personal works, digital photos of several important social occasions and all my 5 years of uni design work. Never turned up since Sad

Na - not really. Maybe. To me it means that when I was in school full time and working full time and thought I had issues, I didn't, really. Older? Yeah, but I make decent money, have more responsibility and more issues as a result.

The times back then were, in spite of the heavy workloads, simpler. Good times. Enjoy things for what they are sonny; don't waste 'em.

fax machines have heat-sensitive paper Smile If you dampen a sheet of it (that you tore off the roll) and stick it in a microwave oven you can make a map of your "hot spots". This also shows you WHY food won't cook evenly in those things.

That ROYALLY sucks, man. Kinda like losing a HD before archiving. Whatcha talkin' 'bout, nothing valuable?!?!?!?!?!

A trick to make you feel safer about stuff like this. Get a safe deposit box at the bank. They are relatively cheap. Once a month make two complete backups- one to stay at the house, one for the safe box.

You'll feel much better and you're not screwed if everything is stolen. Think of your artwork and portfolio as the payback from your investment in school. Not valuable, indeed! Rolling Eyes

Not a bad idea, jimmy. DVD backups make things a lot easier, too. You could back up a two months worth of everything you ever drew, photographed, saved or downloaded onto one DVD and keep it in one of those boxes.

The bag was left on the front passenger seat which made it an easy target. If it was tucked away in shadows under the dash, I'm pretty sure it would've been left alone.
