Probably the single most thing that always rturned me off to hardcore rap was that is maybe too beat specific - maybe too simplified in that sense. Granted there was a message to be said (and heard), but it never jived with me. Comparitively one of the things I've always liked about Outkast is their diversified manner for wrapping rap in a collage of auditory layers through complex sampling and good production; the message is richer, or so it seems.
Then there's Danger Mouse. I like it. I like it a lot. Maybe you will too.
