I saw that commercial for VW (where the guy's boss turns on his car stereo and the death metal comes on) a bit ago and I it got me thinking that it would be fun to get into the dregs of eveyone's musical tastes.
What band/music are you ashamed to admit you like? I'm talking about something in your CD player or on your iPod that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES would you want it to be common knowledge that you enjoy. I figured the relative anonymity would make people honest.
For example, I got into a friends car the other day and there was Enya in the player, which was very quickly turned to Jamiroqaui. Mind you, I'm not talking something obscure or classic that would be considered cool, like Ziggy Stardust or The Kinks, I'm talking Celine or... Enya.
I'll start-
1. ABBA
2. Nightwish (Finnish metal band with uber hot chick singer)
3. t.A.t.U.
4. Niel Diamond
Anyone feel like being honest? |

Ashamed? Not at all, I freely admit that I listen to stuff like Britney Spears and "bad" music like that too if I feel like it. If I have to pretend to like this and that so others think I have the awesome musical taste and like me for it, I find that rather sad. |

Glitter- you're taking it too seriously. I don't mean that you SHOULD be ashamed because of what others think. I mean it as stuff you can't believe you actually like.
Just a joke, man. It's called making light of your own tastes. I for one know there are lots of things that I like that are considered dorky. Because of that I enjoy them that much more. |

I'm beginning to think ashamed was too strong a word to use for a lighthearted thread.
I notice no one has rushed to Neil Diamond's rescue.
And I forgot to mention that I dig Barry Manilow's stuff, too. Ha!!! |

eyewoo: William Shatner's 'Has Been' was actually really good I thought. Was really surprized. It worked! Though he always makes me crack up for no reason at all |

Sorry for that, couldnt really say this time how you meant it. It was how you wrote your post, it sounded so serious itself to me.
I listen to Lucas Arts adventure soundtracks alot, very nerdy. |

lmao, I believe it's 98 degrees...
anyways, I don't think I have anything that I'm ashamed of, I mean, I just listen to what I like, and spit on what I don't, lol _________________ Derelict Studios|Godwin's Space |

I'll be completely honest with you guys. My shame depends on who I'm around.
Deathmetal Addict Friend: "What the fuck is this soft-strum shit?"
me: "just.. some.. you know.. Modest Mouse."
Emo friend: "My god. What aggro crap is this?"
me: "uh. . just.. some .. Melt Banana."
Rap Guy: "hmm. this ain't go no beat."
me: "oh. yeah.. um. Led Zeppelin." _________________ QED, sort of. |

I feel guilty whenever I listen to commercial/mainstream pop music, whatever country it's from. Some of the cheesier early MIDI game soundtracks too. |

Fred: Level 42 are class. Probably on my top 5 all-time.
Guilty too of enjoying Paul Oakenfold's mellow remix of Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River". Can't stand the original though. Somebody shoot me!!
These days Michael Jackson is controversial, but his old stuff kicks. Not proud of it.
Then there's all the awful 80s stuff I grew up with that seems to have some sort of nostalgic grip. Peter Cetera, Bryan Adams, Nick Kershaw I mean c'mon.
ok that's how honest it ever gets. _________________ The Dark Ages was caused by the Y1K problem. |

A few years ago I used to listen game boy music, recorded right out of the game boy. That's probably the most embarrassing.
Though I remember those 2-bit beeps and static for snare drum, that was awesome, with decent bass when played through real headphones. Mostly super mario.
They use those kind of sounds in hip/hop/rap/whatever-it-is-on-mtv all the time it seems. Or so I justify it to myself.
Night Rider theme I listened to that alot in '99, around the same time as game boy. One crazy time signature on that, it changes from 5/4 to 4/4 every other bar, crazy tune, and classic.
More recent musical guilty pleasure is MattMonro, From russia with love.
Thank you vicar, I feel better now. |

Anything. I don't like people hearing what I'm listening to no matter what it is. I don't like people listening to my music while I'm in the room. I don't like people looking through my CDs. Online I don't really care, I'll make you a list, haha...but in person I don't deal with it very well. |
