matthew, this is great.

here's a small batch done during our weekend at Lake Megantice, east canada, above Maine. we had a great time.
trying to do my best with these watercolors. a lot to learn, especially concerning transparencies and subtle effects.

Sparth, nice watercolors

Dylan, looks nice.. I'm tempted to check your DVDs by the way.. have Dusso vol 1 and if yours are even close as good, they're all definately worth of buying.

watmough, me likes that tree!

Matthew, interesting stuff, keep them coming

here's an oversaturated.. thing..

MON I have always loved how you treat edges. It is simply a mistery to me how to decide when to keep them, when to smudge them, when to sharp, when to smooth them. What are your criteria?

gizmodus, Popeye - Thanks

tayete - I'm not quite sure myself. I tend to go from very vague and rough shapes and refine them down to something that starts to look all right. The edges go where I feel they should go; I squint my eyes and look over the piece, letting the eyes drift freely until i get stuck at something that doesn't look okay. It might be that the edge is either too hard or too soft, that the shape isn't working, or something else... But I don't follow the contour of a shape and get it "done", I work at everything at once and fix the stuff that looks the worst at the moment. When that thing is starting to get somewhere something else has become the no.1 problem and i go after that one...

I don't know of any viable criteria, if there is one I'm all ears =) I guess it comes down to where you want your focus to be, a hard edge attracts attention, a soft one lets the eye travel..

I did a quick piece to illustrate this, but I don't think it's very helpful... The bottom line anyway is that I don't know, and experimentation is the way to go. Lots of squinting and allowing for the unexpected Smile
