Great work all.
Watmough: those black and whites are nice.
Viag: I can't always tell what your images are, but you have a very cool style. Its fun to try and decipher.
Balistic: Man, I've been jacked up with health probs too. It makes it really hard to get motivated to do art. I have sympathy dude. Btw that last one is really cool.
Here are a few I built off of ideas from national geographic mags.

Thanks duracel.
painting is more relaxing when I borrow the value information from ref. Then I can try and play with the colors and comp a bit. Since I'm still a novice, Its helping me to learn about process a bit more. though, as andrew loomis and Spooge would say, it would be better not to copy from photos. But I'm not there, so I have no other choice right now.
Heres another for the steaming pile. I think with this sort of image, it really helps to have a solid plan. and work in layers. I'd have to start this one all over again to make it look right.

service pack 2 and ntfs is a lethal combination, snif windows is mostly chestpain.
synnical, I was thinking Yodas place at the dagobah system or the turtle in neverending story for that one, not really that important the motif though cause there are ways to fool the eye with the paint.
Chruser, I am still around, just had some computer error as of lately.
btw If you feel that the participation in the paintchat doesn\t work, pull the plug of it. I do really wanna thank you again for all the work that you have been putting into this paintchatting, hard to make things work in sijun though.
keep up compadres |

For the Summer Practice Thread. Great initiative on that one Matthew!
Someone finding a shitload of nice shots and just dropping them in my lap is just what I need to pic up the pen again.
As always, really nice work. (Came back to find 20 new pages. Shizus)
On a sidenote I can't seem to browse mullins images at the office?
I think someone tried to dl his entire gallery and got our IP banned or something. Oh the humanity.

Chris-Mayernick,thanks alot....I liked that one too,....its good to change it up every once in awhile...you know...its weird,I started working from life just to improve my painting-from-my-head skills....and now I cant stop.
If you want to improve your colour, paint from life.
very nice city-scape of yours.
viag, thank you,I am so amazingly jealous of your style....looks sooooooo fun.
balistic, sorry to hear about your ailments, welcome back to speedpainting!....hope to see more.
retro,nice drawing,values,edges.....somethings up about the colour,though....seems too de-saturated maybe.
buzzz3d,the drawing looks good there.
Duracel,self-portrait is very nice.
octavian,thanks.....those look good.....working from photos.....I used to do it alot.....havent done it for 2 years now though....and I feel like a free man!
jfb,i like your stuff very much.

watmough; i just had to make a new post for this latest pic of yours. your images are becoming so powerful that it might be even better to look at them than it would be to actually look at the scene you're painting from. great stuff, keep it up. |

Try right-clicking the image on deviantART and choose properties (assuming you're using a Windows-based OS). You should be able to use the link to the image file, which typicaly ends with .gif, .jpg, .jpeg or .png.
If deviantART turns out not to allow hotlinking, you can upload it directly to a free image hosting site, such as http://www.picaroni.com. The addresses to the pictures stored on Picaroni can be used on this forum to display the images.
Matthew, I'm not worried about participation, it's just awesome to have the privilege of running a paintchat for Sijun. Besides, I store some files on my computer which require the PaintChat web server to be on, so it doesn't really matter. I may not have an internet connection when I start art school in August, so someone else may have to take over the hosting of a PaintChat by then.
Great works everyone. I couldn't scan my gouache speedpainting with my Canon LiDE 50 scanner due to some strange error that has no references online. I'll post it later if I can get it to work again. Does anyone use the same model?
Here's the PaintChat link again if anyone feels like joining: http://213.50.34.38/entrance_pro.html _________________ What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

F*ck YEAH MATTHEW!!! You did it. I'm loving that last one. your pallette is dead on! I just had to post and say congrats. The colors and the dudes outfit remind me of the first Mad Max movie... which was so awesome. It looks like some evil 30 mil sniper canon. so cool. sorry to be such a fanboy right now.
now go collect your prize. |

watmough: i'm trying to use painter more often, it's like drawing with your left hand, but fun. also i find myself doing the last touches in ps... painter seems to help with the lost edges, the oil brushes are funky. about the color i dont know... i think the reflection on the glass sucks as well as the comp, also the blossoms are strange. do you mean the color on the blossom or the leaves (both?)
i like that you stick to one medium at the mom, that series is nice. do you work outside or from ref?
second try
