I know a lot of you peeps use Max or Maya. Whatcha think of this development? Personally I'm a LW'er, so it doesn't interest me that much(and I'm still using Filmbox 3.5 for mocap).

Why can't these corporations just maintain the status quo and compete? I mean... was either one facing bankruptcy or anything like that?

Well the CEO's are saying they will complement and strengthen their products, integrating the workflow between (cross-compatible hopefully). That's what they say is the major reasoning behind the merger. I really dunno, its a scary time for studio's with heavily invested production pipelines and technical RnD... because of the future uncertaintly about the products.

Hopefully they'll get off their asses and clarify what this merger is going to mean for 3D professionals. My biggest whine about this whole situation is that their is so little infomation about what is going on and it suddendly just came out of nowhere.

For some reason I cant imagine that they will keep up putting out both applications for too long. The only thing thatd probably make sense is to slowly let them flow together into a new app that combines the strengths and still keeps the compatibility for the studios that used the previous versions of any of the apps.

Alias was in debt and not making money, as hard as that is to believe.

I imagine much of the purchase price was to cover Alias' debts.

Wow, that is really hard to believe. I mean didnt Alias get more footing in games dev lately even? Or was the huge price cut they did to their products some years ago a try to get more people buy it?
