Thoughts? Opinions?
Can't say I am a big fan, as watching movies and the like on a 2.5 inch screen seems sort of . . . desperate? The Zen Vision might be a bit more tolerable with a 3.7 inch screen, although even that seems small. _________________ - Tom Carter

Tiny screen, crummy video quality . . . have to say it seems like a stop-gap measure until they can come up with something more robust.
The short battery life during video playback is disappointing too.
Well, I'm not actually disappointed since I don't care for Apple's stuff in general, but it is a little surprising in its half-assedness. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Oh yeah - forgot about that battery life; iPods have a bad reputation for eating those things rather quickly. I imagine the video playback will devour those suckers. _________________ - Tom Carter

The official quoted battery life for video playback was "2-3 hours" . . . so probably closer to 2 than 3.
Plus the videos they're selling through the iTunes store are pretty ugly. Fine for watching on the pod, but they look like butt on a computer. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

I'm tired of this trend of oversaturating our lives with entertainment through cheap gadgets. Now, I love movies, and I spend a hell of a lot of money on DVD's. However, I'll be goddamned if I need to watch Seven Samurai on the way to school or at a restaurant or anywhere but in the comfort of my home. The same goes for music, too. I don't need to drown out my surrounding world or ignore other people from behind my headphones.
Real Life is out there, organic, terrifying, exhilirating, with no batteries. You just have to watch and listen. _________________ QED, sort of. |

Impaler: You forget the real reason for these gadgets.... Sex!
Everything that can be used for pron but has a nice "excuse-function" always sells. |

Of course, that is what we have always dreamed of, being able to watch porn while riding the bus to work or taking a walk in the park. |

I really have to agree with Impaler!
I want to enjoy movies and video games.
I see no point in consuming them wherever I can and have time to just because it's possible.
What do I need crappy PSP graphics for If I can play at high quality at home?
I really fear people will forget their souroundings and get lost in digital worlds.
The cellphones for example are getting really dangerous here in Austria.
Everybody has one, or two, or even three with all the super extra functions.
ANd they play with those things and mess around all day long. It's weird. |

Yep, it's true and you know it! hehe, well maybe that was a bit of an over statement... but try to think of a product that has a real, socially accepted function that also can be used for some porn purpose that is NOT a successful product....
Webcams, electrical toothbrushes, mobile phones... |

Honestly, what a waste of money; music is enough for me I guess. |

I kinda agree with shft5.
I have an iPod, and I am never without it at school or while I draw, but that's just because I love music. I used to carry a mini CD player everywhere, too.
I really dig the Gameboy advance micro, but that's just the product designer in me. If i'm going to do portables they have to be TINY.
not to mention- by the time you get a PSP, portable DVD player, Ipod, you could get a bottom dollar laptop and do everything. |
