last one is nice, sometimes!
but i agree with samson, needs more definition! simplicity is good, but some more representational detail would better capture the viewer's eye. Otherwise it all gets lots in vagueness.

Sometimes>

I agree with Hideyoshi. I tended to think of detail as something like a necessary evil.

Now I see a few clear edges and details as means to have stronger 'design statements'. You want to showcase your story and design by giving a bit more information about key areas. Loose and broad strokes are often considered as confidence in your painting. I'm starting to think that it's even more confident not to hide behind the looseness, but to show just enough to draw the viewer in.

/end crap

I appreciate yo guys taking the time to Straighten me up.
However I think I am beyond rescue when it comes to portraying things, still every now and then I can still appreciate some things more to illustrative but it is not what I am interested in anymore.
I really don't care about the outcome, ironically I just like to paint and see what happens.

hmm perhaps I care? Don't care sounded wrong...
But anyway, it is not the outcome that drives me what I like in the painting, it is rather the process. I think in the beginning it is the other way around, you wanna do some flashy things and hoping for a cool result.

hi. so much good stuff here. very inspiring.

posting my first "speed paint". not sure if there's criteria for calling it a speed paint but i just started noodling with an old photo of mine (some grass near the shoreline) and ended up with this in about an hour or so.

i've been working on a series of pieces for a sword and sorcery game.

zhowie, not much of it left, I threw away most of my works. I stopped painting you know, never thought I would be back like this posting in a forum.
Was into decorative painting previous when I was most active.

Found one of these on my old mp3 player, it's called grisaillle painting. deals with tonal and is mainly ornamental. Good practise with light and you do a lot of those in decorative schools.

thanks for asking zhowie

Sometimes:

I like that you do things your way, and I say keep blazing a trail. It seems to me that art is dead anyway. When Duchamp hung a urinal upside down and declared "anything can be art", I think it poignantly killed it. I go to museum after museum and am starting to become convinced that there can be nothing "NEW" to say with painting. (Though I've no idea why one would care about such a thing) As much as I've disliked Pablo Picasso, I wonder if he was the last "fine" artist to even matter.

That is why I like the realm of illustration... a place to indulge in my imagination without concern for the fine art critic. Furthermore, painting is a very soothing/frustrating puzzle, which keeps the mind occupied for life.

So when you say you do it for the process alone [and I'm assuming], without regard for outcome or critical acclaim, I applaud you. well done.

I'll not presume that my opinion means much to you, but rather just wanted to give you a subconscious-rambling ass pat. Very Happy
