Since we are on the subject of VS, what about Batman VS Superman. What are the odds that at least one of these films will be worth watching? |

Event Horizon was definetly good. But then again that same guy made Mortal Kombat and Soldier. We'll see. |

How funny, I thought MK, Soldier, and EH all were horrible(and I generally and very forgiving of bad movies). EH is in my top 20 of all-time worst movies |

resident evil sucked.
although, i hope that avp won't suck. it probably will, but i'll still go see it, buy it on dvd and gripe my guts out about how it sucks, while Paul Anderson and the studio execs wallow in our money. |

Paul Anderson is one of the worst of b-movie directors around at the moment. "Worst" in the sense that he keeps getting great material but usually makes trash.
'Soldier' was a David Web Peoples script for god sake, and Anderson just ruined it! (Peoples = Blade Runner, Unforgiven, 12 Monkeys)
Resident Evil was style over substance. Event Horizon was the closest Anderson has come to making something worthwhile but it was still a little bit "music-video".
Alien vs Predator is possibly the best licence in scifi at the moment so I was very disappointed to see Anderson was going to be writer/director on it. |

Yeah, Paul Anderson is more or less a joke among myself and most of my film buff friends. He hasn't made a single movie worth watching (aside from MST3K value), and I've got such cinematic winners as Six String Samurai on my shelf, so that's saying something.
But the reason he was most likely picked was because Fox is convinced this should be treated as a video-game to movie deal, rather than a comic-movie. And Paul Anderson has generally had monetary success (apparently) with his video-game movies. That's all a studio needs to hear.
A little history:
After the comic was made, movie rumors hit, and a script started floating around hollywood. It was gonna happen, but neither Alien3 or Predator2 made too much money, so Fox lost interest in AvP. People have been trying to do this movie for like ten years now.
Over that time, an AvP arcade game is released, an nes game, an snes game, an atari jaguar game, and a pc game (plus sequel), none of which are really related to each other. But the two pc games were pretty popular.
So, that's where your market lies, in the video game tie-in. Specifically, the last two PC games. This leaves you with a movie based on one of many video games based on a comic based on a two movie licenses. Hooray for Hollywood!
I've actually sort have had my fill of AvP. I always had a weird fetish for the Batman VS Predator comic myself ^_~ |

I totally agree with you there...batman vs predator was awesome...it's one of the only predator comics that actually captured the feel of the predator movies, the last issue, (#4 I think) where the predator punched through the windshield of the batmobile, trashed wayne manor, and nearly killed alfred was great...brings back memories of elementary school where I used to copy pictures from those books |

Hopefully he'll only be an influence in the sets and visual stuff since that seems to be his strength and that he follows the comic book/novels as closely as possible. Let's just hope his producers are waving money at him and threatening to take it away if he screws up what could potentially be a kick ass movie. |
