awesome stuff all
here's another fun experiment.
you grab the square shape, and you paint.
i also used a custom shape made of multiple squares to emulate texture like surfaces.

That cool too. Reminds me of a GIF that is still in the process of downloading. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Sparth - You are having way too much fun lately. Inspring stuff!
Here's my go with the squares.
Vahn - like those, especially the bottom piece. _________________ WEBSITE

quintus, photeck, On, and ZUP of course: it's AWESOME!
here's another try to the square approach.
i forgot to mention that the inspiration for giving it a try at square painting was this awesome not yet released sword and sworcery game on the ipad. it looks more than promising.
sukkhoi: doh! forgot to read your message. well there's a reason why it looks like it.

Thank Sparth, Quintas!
Lots of inspiring work lately by everyone!!
Experimented some more with the square painting on the above image. I then started playing "connect the dots" on some of the squares for fun. Still my image felt a little lacking......so I started slicing up the image into little pieces and mirroring them together. This allowed me to get some quite complex tech shapes and patterns that I might not have otherwise been able to come up with very quickly. Most of them are still pretty flat, but they would make good springboards to start a painting. Here are a few compositions I was able to pull out of this original piece.

ZupZup, Wow awesome!, real inspirational stuff. You know I do patterns for my site that way, mirror flipping, it works real awesome for textural work..for 3d..
Had to make something like your stuff, mine is very sloppy though lol.
I can see that squares could be very useful for texture work, hmm never thought of that before... lol
Made this one=
=out of this one

the squares are awesome guys!!! going to do that tomorrow. I love the idea of putting some limit like that, because sometimes you limit the method so much it squishes creativity out around the sides. Lots of times digital is so open-ended feeling I start flailing and licking, so always a good exercise to place limits on the work.
for now I got these things

did this all with triangles instead of squares...just to be different , but i think i layered this so much that the triangle shapes get lost and it looks like any other painting but it was still a lot of fun

Sorry to ask, are there any tut\s on how to make simple brush shapes like triangles or squares? I'm not very good with these things...

ha, thats awesome Howie.
Lakka-just make a black shape on a white background, select it and go to edit where you hit "new brush preset" or something like that.
I like painting with the shape tool, because you don't just apply it like with a brush, but you can change it size and stretch it out and stuf.

thanks dudes!
free.ZE-is that first one formatted for 3d viewing? cool.
Matthew- the caveman scene is great, the primitive earthy tones of the painting really sell it!
i was playing around and stretched my landscape vertically, made it look alot better I think
maybe should've put this one in the music thread lol- Roland the headless thompson gunner, based on the Warren Zevon song
