I'd say it's a joke! Imagine how many hours would wasted by the police searching every home in Greece for games consoles and any portable devices, that would be similar to the police upholding the law that says you can't keep a recording on a recordable media for more than 24 hours. |

well it *IS* illegal to sneeze in Greece. The code of law needs a major update... as this is a very old law. Wouldn't suprise me tho. |

Heh...
So...I don't think this petition is going to be taken very seriously...especially when the core and supporters have names like:
Punk ass fraggers, dildowhacker, asskicker, spanked fetus, girlscout in pampers, lovepump, etc... |

Its illegal to 'sneeze' in greece ? ...... oh my....
well ... i've read about funny laws in many different countries before.
You know like from where i am, Singapore, its illegal to sell Chewing Gum. Its legal to chew it... just illegal to sell it.
BUT STILL .. banning computer games ??? ...
playing chess on games.yahoo.com is illegal ?? ... i do that to kill time ! |

Yeah it was outrageous.. thought it was a joke first time I saw it. they did ban playing chess on yahoo, some internet cafe owners are to stand trial already. The law also penalizes foreigners with Gameboy or mobile phones with games..
and "no sneezing"?! |

Seems that it is, in fact, true.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/2238242.stm
The website seems to be facing heavy traffic, but there's an online petition at http://www.gameland.gr and there's a mirror at http://gameland.simhost.co.uk/index2.htm
Would be interesting to hear from Greek members about this, rather than read badly worded articles which seem to differ greatly from one article to another.
Apparently, there is already a trial involving guys who played Counterstrike. :\

"And so the masses said to their lords, 'In the entertainment halls, in the streets, in the public square, in the private dwellings of the people, let there be games!' As one who knows not the value of a gem should appraise it not, one who knows not the value of a game should ne'er press his ignorant opinion nor open his inept mouth against it. Let the informed masses override royal idiocy in a beautiful triumph!
Let there be life!" - From http://gameland.simhost.co.uk/index2.htm

That is totally fucked up, but, unless you're one of those geeks that sits inside all day playing computer games, there are other things to do than play little (annoying half the time) electronic games.
(I'm just bitter. Dad took away the only game I've played that I really liked. Last year.) |

(Posted this in another thread as well):
The Greek embassy in Stockholm state that while the law in it's current form states that basically every form of electronic gaming is forbidden, this was not at all intended to begin with.
The idea was to limit hazard-games involving money, both publically and privately, but as said they overshot a bit in that regard.
It'll likely be re-written during the fall, so hey.
That's their story and I'm sticking to it... for now |
