I just got a new mac last weekend.. "love it" and have been messing with the preferences and exstension files.
now the computer doesn't see the monitor as a "viewsonic" just a "VGA monitor".. which truely isn't anything major..but it drives me nuts because I want the system to know what monitor i have for color accuracy..
I figure i could download a new driver from viewsonic or Ati.. but i was curious to know or any ideas in what in the hell i did to take out the profile for my monitor..???
ohh.. and what is the difference between.. binary or HQX mac files.. is HQX for the new macs "G3/G4's" or something different???
hope someone might have an idea..
thanks |

O.K., I'm going to try to answer your second question (the monitor thing I have no idea about, one of those have to see it to try and figue it out).
The file extension .hqx designates a file as being BinHex encoded. The BinHex encoding is usually added as a shell around a self-extracting archive (.sea) file. If you download an .hqx file from an Internet site such as ftp.microsoft.com, you will have to strip the BinHex shell from the file. BinHex specification 4 is followed for the majority of the .hqx files posted on Internet sites.
You need something like StuffIt Expander to open it. A .hqx is the mac equivilant of a .zip file. Hope that helped and good luck with your monitor.

hey puck you forgot an important part of the question.
Either .bin or .hqx will work on the newer machines. But some of the older machines have trouble with one of those formats (I forget which one right now. but the smaller one old machines have problems with) but if you've got a new machine same stuff. different filesize. |

Thanks PuckDewd,
the file exstension exsplanation was what i was wanting to know...
as for the monitor.. huh..
at this point i'm not going to worry about it anymore.. i have gone through everything you could think of and nothing.. even reset the battery on the motherboard.. still it will not see the monitor as a ViewSonic.. i am thinking the only other thing to do is borrow another monitor to hook up.. and then switch back to my ViewSonic... That is were i'm at with the situation.. hahahaa...
thanks again PuckDewd,
and you too Dean..
