i was asking before about movies called "B" movies, and stuff like that..
but, alot of you (who im assuming were guessing) said B movies stood for Bad movies...which cant be true....because alot of great movies ive rented (which have won academy awards, or were really big boxoffice hits) have had B as their rent code....
so does anyone truly know how people decide what the rent code is for movies? and there are alot of Z movies, goto blockbuster and just look at the sides :]
btw, i just saw the Usual Suspects....god....what a great fucking movie. |

I think you are mixing up the worldwide movie classification (A & B) with your local store's indexing system classification

Basically, every single movie ever made out there can be simplified into a simple hierarchy.
Here are the basic categories with a modern example for each.
Camp- Godzilla 2K
Classic- The Cell
Forget-about-it-in 6 months (FAIISM)- Hollow Man
Porno- Uh.
Cliche-mold- Bring It On (this particular title should probably go in the above section. blah.)
The next step involves the genre of the movie.
You have your basic action movie. THey're only released so often, so we'll use this as our constant release rate.
You have Comedies. There are about 1 1/3 comedies released for every action. Most of these movies fall into the FAIISM category, although a rare few become true classis, redefining the vernacular of the period (Yeah, baby!)
You have the Romantic movies. These are usually overly-cliched, with the basic plot resting on unlikely love that triumphs in the end.
You have your Teen Flicks that every Pop-Loving teenage girl flocks out to see because just maybe, if they see that movie, they'll become popular too! These fall into both the cliche category and the FAIISM
category almost always.
You have the Profound movies (documentaries)that usually wreak of effort, but the critics love them anyways. They tend to follow the current style of the period but hardly ever actually hit that intangible that makes a movie classic. FAIISM mostly.
After that you tend to narrow down to the individual-specific characteristics, like title and rating (g, pg, pg-13, etc etc...).
That's as close to a classification system as you can get.

You call this a friggin' signature? |
