Did this one for my local church for their Easter presentation. Oddly disturbing when I look at it, yet calming.
Feel free to critique, though it's already been completed for it's purpose. |

It's probably accurate, though... Having a crown of thorns pressed into your head might draw some blood... |

not really. its not like anyone pressed on it until it was digging into his head and drawing blood, or so i think. imo it looks more against religion than for it. yeah the guy suffered, but what are all those slices across his back and arms?

I believe the slashes are fromt he whipping. Still a very disturbing picture, especially considering it was done for a church. I'll just add this one to my nightmare file.

Hey, His crucifixion wasn't exactly nice, that's the whole point of it. It depicts it well, and if ya got kicked outta church for something like this, you'd have to question their understandings of the event.
Keep up the good work, Salty. @:-)

Hey all..I appreciate the feedback, from both sides. Maybe I should've gone a little more indepth to the actual criteria for the project before dropping it on you all. Historically, Roman crucifixtion was the most grueling form of death. If anyone wants the particulars just drop me a line. In the case of Jesus, he was flogged, beaten, and finally a crown of thorns was put on his head, mocking the claim to be the "King of the Jews" I highly doubt it was gently placed on his head so as to not mess up his flowing locks.
As for the piece being displayed in church. The minister contacted me with this assignment and he wanted something that was disturbing. A man dying on the cross IS disturbing. Too often people have this picture that it wasn't that big of an event.
So I did it in a very dramatic fashion. No, it isn't meant to be anitreligion, or a tribute to Marilyn Manson. It's my depiction of a very real occurrence. (Incidentally there was a disclaimer printed in the program about the graphic nature of the work, both mine as well as another artists..dealing with the issue.)
Once again..thanks for the input!
OH...btw...anyone who wants to contact me,
