music critique:
eko3: varies a bit in speed and timing.. sounds quite funny though. I see a problem in so far that it has no real theme, no recognizeable line.
gon4: I like this one, its quite funny too. It has a more transparent stucture
ikenegg: slowly the quarters-bass line begins to bug me. sounds to me like austrian volk-music. Just a guy jodeling is missing.
snog1: cool one. good use of drama-buildup. bet one yet imho.
gon1: hmm the beginning is cool, but it drops later a bit.
snog2: these woodblocks/xylophone or whatever they are don't fit in I think.
ekofunk: you should work on your basslines a bit they all tend to be very simplistic and begin to be uninterresting and predictable pretty soon. This piece is a bit unspectacular.
ikeseyes: this is good, you harmonized the theme quite good.
snog3: good one.. just the new theme at 0:50 bugs me
snogwake: good.. very short but its good
eko7: sounds like you were not sure what to play.. very confusing.
eko10: some disharmonies there.. and very confusing too, no theme
snog4: you got a good groove and buildup on this one, just the lead instrument is partially annoying.
thats it so far.. since I just came home from playing a gig on a student's fest I thought I will listen to your stuff and tell you my opinion and go to sleep now, its 3:01 am.

i hate those damn white dots.
the way i have found it to not use transparency, and rather the color of the background where you are putting the image. I have given up entirely on transparency because of the bitchy dots. |

If you have adobe image ready, try messing with the matte color of the gif. sometimes you can get rid of them by using a middle tone for the matte color.
I removed them before by just messing with the alpha channel, pixel by pixel. Doesn't png support alpha channels? I can't remember..you can try that format and see if it helps. |

If you're working with characters that all have black outlines, then the best thing to do is pick a background color that is close to black in value. Then, when you select the color to be transparent, those anti-aliased pixels (that appear white because you're rendering against a white bg) will hardly be visible.
At least, that's what I'd do mi jefe...
If you can set the anti-alias values in Lightwave - or the alpha channels - to be minimal, that will help to...

PS: I love your music, synj!
PPS: Here are a few midi's of mine (.mp3s of bungloads to come within the next month)
PPPS: LeChuck also does stuff

thanks kurisu you are such a happy fun ball of smile with a side of giggles.
well i dunno i put it with no antialiasing and then it can NOT meet the needs of the details within the character then and looks all weird. must increase my bust somehow. i'll try the dark bg eheh if it works you'll see the original gif change

I DID IT! HOORAYYYYyy okay what i did was erase the white around it in the original render, and put like a weird green behind it then flatten it, and export to gif, and select all the weird green in the palette for transparency and YAY it worked hehe!!!34567u904jdfmlcvx
kuri: i was thinking the same thing about turning antialiasing off, but this is what you get if you do:
yucky!
compared to:
yay!

if you're only gonna use them with on one background, then usign that bg color in lw is a good idea.
if you need to use the same pic on various backgrounds, you could try using the "fader alpha" mode in lightwave. it's meant to be used when you have a 'real' grayscale alpha channel, but with the type of comic stuff that you're doing, it might work with just the gif ON/OFF transparency.

synj: you'd have to render your frames with alpha-channel generation. That way you could use the alpha to blend the antialising properly over any background. Transparent gifs cannot use these btw. |
