Well, right now I'm just out of high school and trying to get any kind of designing job for experience. I've never actually charged for a website so I'm completely unaware of a good price to give this inquiring company without totally screwing myself over. They want six pages with possibly some small Flash animation.

What's a good average rate to charge per page? And how much to addon for other stuff like graphic creation, programming, or flash?

Heeilp.

First of all, I would charge by the hour.

You should find out the rates of the
competition / local web design firms and
choose a price which is in the middle,
that you feel comfortable charging.

Charge that same rate for graphic design,
programming, and flash.

Just create an estimate of time for each
section of the site.

After you complete a few jobs like this
you will have a better idea of the time and
effort involved and could charge a set rate
for certain features or packages if you
wanted. Personally I prefer the hourly
thing.

Also, it is a good idea to get some kind of
deposit before you start the project. I
think 30% is fairly standard.

Just make sure you put a lot of time into
the estimate to make it as accurate as
possible. Give them the best service you
possible can, as quickly as possible. And
make sure you are happy with the work when
it is done. I would even go so far as to
'eat' some extra time to come in under
budget.

The happier they are, the better chance you
have of getting another client referred by
them.

Thats my 5 cents....

You don't want to charge too much for your website. You need to build a portfolio.. and as much sites you can get the better. If you charge them cheap the word will get around and you will get other contracts.

My first website job was for a store.. and they wanted database programing and the whole shoping cart.. etc.. Normally for the time I spent on them I found out the competition would charge him anywhere from $5000-10000 dollars. I just charged him $1000. Had fun doing it...

Just remember dont get greedy...

Ah, thank god.. replies. Thanks.

"Change Logo, text, picture Placement to load faster and to have a
professional look.
Text Link with rollover effect to add interactivity.
Color management to add visual depth.
Additional 3 pages for store locations with basics contact information.

Photos or any additional clip art extra
Work guarantee and customer satisfaction.

Give me feedback on what you can do and the cost involved."

Not a really difficult job. Probably under or maybe around $1000? $500?

Hey what company are you designing for? From what I've seen on smaller start-up designers is charging by the content - not by the hour. I don't know about prices but people will do a certain amount for every photo used, or graphic designed. And then a larger price for each individual web page. Into pages usually cost more from what I've seen. Flash Animation is normally pretty expensive as well.
