like i said in my first post, if i stare at something for 20 seconds, i can see it perfectly in my head whenever i want to. the trouble occurs when i apply it to paper. my logical side kicks in and tries to think of..er..logical ways to place my memory down onto the sheet. heres a test for you guys who are like me. stare at your backyard for 30 seconds. then take a piece of paper, close your eyes, put pencil to the paper, and just start drawing while visioning the image in your head. never look at the paper. then get another sheet and stare at it while drawing. i find that even though the first piece is extremely messy, all the features in it are much more accurate. the second piece is very clean but alot of details my mind just made up.
im also slightly near sighted, i couldnt see the word "Stop" on a stop sign 30 to 40 feet away....i'd just see some white lines on a red octagon. im also color blind.
i dont understand how color blindness works tho. people think color blinded people cant see colors, which is completely untrue. color blind people merely cant identify certain colors. like, i cant tell what color some shades of purple/blue/green are, i confuse them with some each other. i have no idea how or why this happens, anyone know the technical reason? |

Color blindness stems largely from problems with your Cones (the Color sensitive receptors in your eyes) There are different chemicals in these cones that react to certain wavelengths of light (ie red Green Blue) So if you're missing one of these chemicals or the amount of these chemicals are low that can attribute to color Blindness.
These Receptors send the message to your Retina which converts the chemical message into an electrical one and sends it to your brain and your brain deciphers it.
So basically Its your Damn Screwy Cones.
I think I read somewhere that Colorblind people have an easier time Seeing Camoflage colors though. So if you're into paintball at all....
By the way I'm not colorblind, I've just got bad eyes -8 and -8.5 (if that means anything to anyone.) in laymans terms it means I can see about the Bredth of my Palm in front of my face Clearly. So of course I picked a visual medium to work in eh?
But I recently got my eyes fixed So I can See all the beautiful stuff on these boards better now.

Left handed..
while talking about this. How about astrological signs. They to are suppose to represent some kinda link to artistic abilities.. hahaa..
>I'm a pisces<
But one of the best artists that I know first hand is right handed. He was able to draw out of his imagination, and reproduce anythign he could visualy see too. So I don't buy into the whole right/left hand. I do believe the brain theory but, like anything else you have to fine tune a skill. Creativity doesn't make anyone an artist. Just a creative person... |

Whew, there does seem to be a vast majority of left-handed humans in here. I wonder if it's because not many righties felt like replying? Incidentally, just for the tally, I'm right handed, but the only one of my friends who'se decent at art is left handed. And yes, it comes naturally to him. I have to work like hell. Though both of my parents are right-handed artists... hmm... |

By the way.. I'm right handed and I feel I can draw anything I see. I just have a limited imagination when it comes to creating things for me to draw. |
Its the same for me. I personally think that my images are boring, regardless of how much i've worked on them. I'm sagittarius, btw.

Just so everyone knows.. I never said that right handed people can't be artist or are not creative enough to be artist. If I did I wouldn't be drawing. I just think that a left handed artist could probably picture something in their head and apply it to paper in sort of a "flow". While a right handed artist pictures something in their head they analyse and think more into the best way to apply it to paper. (Which is the way I do it.) Its sorta the difference between knowing what to do and figuring out how to do it. (If that makes sense.)
Oh and I'm a Cancer which I believe means creativity and art are part of my traits. |

I'm a righty.
I think with the right-handed, left handed "who has more creativity issue" if more than 3% of the people here have said they are left handed, then that is a pretty neat corelation between art and left-handedness, since only 3% of the human pop. is left handed. I got that stat from my Tech Design class.
As far as the benefit goes to being left handed... shorter neural pathways between the visual sector of the right brain and the part of the right brain that controls the hand's motor skills. That's just my guess
Of course... who can tell with people who can draw with their mouthes.. because they have no arms? I saw a tv show on PBS or some channel that showed a parapalegic who could draw better with his mouth than I could at the same age! Desire and time spent on-task are much larger factors than handedness fer shure. |

drgordon: Saggitarius (I think. whatever that Goat archer guy is.) My Chinese Food menu also tells me I'm a Sheep or a Goat. Depending on the restaurant.
"Creativity doesn't make anyone an artist. Just a creative person..."
AH! but does being a Creative person Drive you to draw more? Now we're getting somewhere.
Rinaldo: Yeah but now, after the surgurey, I've Got 20/25 vision apparently (that's what the doctor said.) I don't know what that means Cause I think that's the American System or something. |

Dean: Do you think that when you draw. That your being creative? Or are you being the medium in which your mental perception of an object is being translated {aka inspiration} to a visual documentation {artwork}? ^_^
