Here's a sketch I'm working on
Now, why does the nearer sphere seem so distorted. I have followed the "rules" for perspective, but it doesn't look right. Insight appreciated

I'm no perspective master either but does this look better? It's kinda rough... I'm no architect.. but you get the idea.

I have literaly no idea about perspective but the front circle isn't a circle, if you measure the bottom line of the square you're making it out of it's almost the same length as the side furthest away from us. a circle is constructed out of a square and a square has equal sides. if that square had equal sides and was in perspective then those sides would be different lengths. I think what I'm saying is that you're drawing an elipse not a circle. (I could be wrong on every count).
the way you've drawn the circle also looks wrong more like an elipse on an angle than straignt up.
Idunno someone wit ha clue might trundle alond and be able to tell what's what. |

I guess my worthless 2 cents. I remeber drawing isometric circles (cirlces on planes that are at 30 and 60 degrees) in highschool in one of my technical drawing classes. These were constructed using 4 quater circles of varying radii. I'm extroplating in guessing that perspective is going to be something similar (or even worse). I'm not 100% sure.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve with that X. You need individual center lines for each sphere.
spooge: If your still reading this post. My question about perspective is how do you determine scale? Take this example of the 2 spheres. Assuming they are both the same size how do you determine how big the one furthest away is? |

Elam:
The problem is related to something we call FOV (Field of View), which is how wide your view is...
In your image, you want to portrait cylinders, but your problem is that your second perspective-point is too far out and not 90 degrees from the viewpoint in the image, causing distortion, ... the way you have it set up, the perspective-point out of the image contructs cylinders, but the one IN the image slices through the cylinders at an angle, creating ellipses, and not circles.
I hope you see what I mean. To fix the problem, simply bring the outer perspective-point much closer towards the inside of the image.
cheers,
frost.
PS - I've read the word sphere a few times here, let's not confuse spheres with circles, as spheres always look perfectly round no matter what the angle. =)

Hey Elam, whats up? DO you go to state? I
went there for a while. Live up north now, in
TC.
Can't help with the perspective though, I suck
at it.

spooge: nevermind I remember now... you determine it by the height of the object. |
