Playing around with B+W again. Inspired a lot by Veb and Micke with their exelent Black and White work. I did these sketches, sort of gesture drawings really. very quick (by my standards anyway). I'm going to try and paint one of them in colour as we speak.
Just thought I'd post them for all to see and comment on. I know the anatomy and a lot of other stuff is wack but I'm not going for that with these. I plan to tighten up a bit with the colour. I'll post it in this thread when finished.
I'd apreciate and welcome any feedback/crits
-In the order I did them.

Those are very cool, Rinaldo. I like the
poses a lot especially the last one.
Can't wait to see what you do with the color!

Pretty neat. The first one looks like you might have cropped off too much. The second one looks a little tooo undefined. I like the last one but it is just screamin for more detail. The grey marks on the last one look more like errors than corrections. |

I adjusted the brightness on your pic. Hopefully this helps. Looks like you might have tried to touch up and didn't choose a true black.

Gotcha Yeah I pick the colours off the canvas and seeing as only B+W were used you'd expect there to be no grey, but it's there and I accadently picked it a few times. didn't really notice what you pointed out, and I've got my monitor on full brightness and contrast of late so I can see the colours in shaddow areas better.
Thanks, I'll have to be more carefull

Wow! You gave that thing real essence! It's moving... it sits up and sees me and approaches, probably to ask for some spare cash (dirty rotten monsters!!!)

Wow, I like it a lot. You really depict a lot of character in the pose and in the brushwork. I also dig how you put it against a stark white background - it makes the beast look even darker. |

Colours are underway. I got to this stage ages ago but haven't gone any furthur becasue I wanted some feedback and suggestions. I'm having trouble with the gamma on my comp so tell me if this looks overly saturated or whatever. I had my gamma too low bwfore which I htink would give other people washed out images whereas I see them as contrasty etc. I reajusted this image after changing gamma.
anyway here it is:

OOoooh! That's really nice! The gamma looks just perfect on my monitor, though there's a lot of banding going on in the background (I don't know if that's from your gamma adjustments or from jpegization, but it's definitly noticable.) I really like the way this picture is turning out.
Are you planning on entering this in the Artist of Depth competition? |

Waylon- Thanks
Hmmmmm. yeah I'm getting the banding too. Loki put up some tut for monitor calibration a while back that mentiond this but I was a bit shakey on a few points. I'm having a nightmare here with all the sliders.
I'll keep trying, I hate this sort of thing.
rdgraffix-yeah I like the B+W too, it's so simple yet so effective.
Sergenth- Thanks I was trying to get a dynamic seething feel.
Here are a few Batman aketches I was doing recently.same sort of thing in B+W. done very quick.
any BM fans out there tell me what I screwed up or whatever. some of the anatomy is funky as well but I was after drama more than anyhting.

Is there a reason you composed most of these at about the same ratio as a 35mm frame of widescreen film?

Hehe I've finaly been spooged (yay) I love the lighting.
A.Buttle- not really, besides just plain wanting to, I wanted something a bit different and I like that format. I did the same thing with the BM sketches just 'cos.
with these becuase of the small file size of B+W and the small pixel size needed for this finish I just start with one file and make a new layer for every pic.

Nice work Rinaldo!
Very fresh and energetic.
I love the contrast you can get with B+W, Colour can just seem dead in comparison.
Keep it up.

Thats the way! Very inspiiring b&w.
Rhinaldo, you should try doing such characters with Indian ink and a large brush. Just a tip. I think you would like it. =)
