That style just isn't good for a comic. Too muddy and smudgy. Maybe try to keep it cleaner so that expressions and whatnot will be easier to see and the whole thing will be a little easier to look at. Also, the font's not working out too well. Doesn't fit in the bubbles. A few grammatical errors too. Keep tweaking though, it takes awhile to nail down a good technique for something like this. |

I agree with the others. Too smudgey for a comic. You invested some time in details like shading and unshaven skin that don't quite justify the time spent. This is a comic strip after all. Er, what I mean is it's good to have details, but find a quicker way that is easier to duplicate and looks more consistent from frame to frame.
In lieu of the shading, use hard lined shadows and shaded regions, much like the darker areas on skin in anime illustrations.
About the bubbles, the convention among comic illustrators is to use bubbles that are roughly the size of the sentences. The last 2 frames have bubbles that are too large
I've been reading lots of comics at www.keenspot.com so I've got a critical eye for comics right now... www.sinfest.net is the best of the bunch. Go check it out and absorb his style some

I like it. I must admit that the others have some good crits. My only two cents is that this will tend to push you towards the more conventional style of cartoons where you can get lost in amougst everyone else who has a similar style.

Hey! Thanks for all your crits guys. Yes, I agree, the artwork is a little bit too detailed for a comic, however, If you think about it, action comics and stuff usually use really beefed up pictures. My question: Why should quick three frame gag comic have to be any different? Just think on it. You do all have very valid oppinions, thank you.
