hello all
this is my first time posting in this forum...
The pencils were not done by me. I do not care to take credit for them.
The colors are by me.

This is the entire page. note my indecisiveness on the time of day, grass, and lighting of top panels.
Any suggestions on what direction i should take would be appreciated.


This is a detail. I try to have lots going on with the colors, while keeping it pinned down at the same time.

any suggestions on technique would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. This looks like an interesting experiment with color. Very cool idea. Looks like your going for an analogous orange-green color scheme. Not quite sure it works harmoniously since you've got colors from all across the spectrum (so much red, and I also see quite a lot of blue and indigo in there). I guess my only feedback would be trying to unify your color palette IMHO. My suggestion would be to choose a more complimentary color scheme and limit your color palette to just a few hues (ie. red w green compliment, orange w blue compliment). Using fewer colors may add more impact and drama to the piece. Color theory is a very important part of any artists toolset and no rules are set in stone. I encourage you to do more pieces like this in the future. It's a unique approach to color. Hope this helps .

I like the storyboard(is that what it is?) but it gets confusing on the 3rd frame and you never show what the other creature is. It is hard to assume it's a lion. Besides the storyboard itself, you have an interesting coloring style but on the last frame what's up with all the reds, greens and yellows in there? It makes it look like my monmitor fucked up and puked up retarded colors. I don't mean to be too critical but on the last frame, that does nto look like a lion, it reminds me of "blanka" from streetfighter.

err.. . .stupid me. I just read your post again and realized that you weren't responsible for the pencils. So, scratch off half of what I said in my previous post. I dig the colors, until the end, the balance is lost and it hurts my eyes.

This lion is my 2nd serious experiment with coloring a drawing ( in comic book sort of way ).
i think i'm gonna choose a relatively monochromatic color scheme for the top panels, like the 2nd panel, then leave the foreground with full color.

I also am going to emphasize the light source in the foreground. Also, Sam Keith is the shit. He uses real paintings in his comics for emphasis...I'm kinda going for that same kind of effect by leaving the brushmarks obvious, but i'm afraid that it is destracting...

I think that it would be cool to add texture in there somewhere...

Well..... your 2nd one looks a bit more uniform..... but noentheless a bit wierd. It's a very itneresting color technique as well. I think the thing that's bugging me is the background meshes with the colored things. It just meshes across the whole page. That may of course be intended, but I think it adds an extra flatness to everything. So, perhaps try not to detail the background as much or add so much texture to it. Hope I made myself clear. ciao.

Hey, much better second attempt. I think the page looks much better as a whole. One small tip for coloring comic pages is not only do the panels have to work individually but, the entire page has to work as a whole. I think you've tied the whole thing together much better this time. Cool stuff. I'm very interested in seeing what will come of these color experiments a few months down the road .

BTW, Just curious why you mentioned Spumco. Do you work there or are you just a fan like me? They KICK ASS!! Their comics are so dam funny. Wish they were still doing those!
