I was bored and I though I would just experiment with a looser style. This may not look like much because it is experimental and rough. It took me about 20 min.
Here it is with fire added.

I like your usage of atmospheric perspective.
Also, the colors you use give it a very naturalistic feel.
I think the perspective on the stones might need some work. The seem to be standing up a little and don't seem to sit on the ground so well. |

I think the fire looks good. The picture definitely needed a center of focus. But compositionally, the placement isn't too good. You generally don't want to put an object dead-center. I'd shift it off to the left or right a bit, to balance out the composition. Probably left, since you have a lot more going on in the trees to the right. |

I rather like this image. Tho I may differ from alot of people in saying this i personally like the first image the best. It look barren and so on. I think the fire looks out of place..

Hey Rob. Like your new style. Looks very complete and only took you 20 minutes eh? Anyway, the road looks great. even has that small dent. The trees are nice as well and the atmosphere you got going seems foggy. Me likes me likes. Anyway, indeed the fire is out of place. What kinda idiot would put a fire in the middle of a walking path? But hey, just to let you know, on fires, they shouldn't look so.... uniform and symmetrical and there's always small pieces of heated cinder flying aroudn in the air. You've got the lighting thing down. But one small error that I noticed is the shadow on the trees to the left.... shouldn't the size/angle of the shadows change with elevation? I'm not too sure on that....but great pic! |

Thanks for the crits.
arniemg: Yes I agree the stones are definitely out of perspective. I should have laid them out in more of an oval pattern.
waylon: Good suggestion. I see what you mean.
I just threw a fire there for an experiment with lighting.
Jenn: I like the first one myself but couldn't decide which to post so I posted both.
EviLToYLeT: You could be right about the left side shadows but I didnt really give it much thought. I just threw them down pretty quick whithout look too much into it.

Heh. By the way, when you do quick paintings it isn't all about the looks. Keep in mind that its the foundation so just remember that shadows differ on raised altitudes and such and go to different angles. Just something to keep in mind for your next picture. |

Thanks. Yeah more trees would be nice.
I was going to put larger trees toward the front but I got tired and decided to crash.
