Just a quick poll, hope nobody minds.
Do you drink? If so, does drinking affect your art? Please explain.
If you don't, why is staying sober an adventage?

Does anyone not drink??? Where I come from if you are over the age of 15 your out twice a week in the clubs and pubs and sometimes even go there for lunch.
Drinking whilst drawing is stupid tho, you get smashed and wake up to the smell of smouldering computer.
Blah. Sorry. Too tired to think straight, think i'll go down the duty free.

I find that drinking really affects my ability to make good decisions and work with other people. And, since my main craft is film making, Not being able to do those two things is devastating. So, while working I avoid the drink, but afterwards a few relaxers is ok. But not too many if I'm working the next day.
Smoking crack is just fine whenever though.

Yo Budoka. I dont drink. And I dont plan on ever starting. Drinking flamable liquid that subdues your brain does NOT sound like a good idea for any reason.

I won't say I never drink--I've been known to have the occasional nip of something, but I stop at one drink, and I don't drink + draw. (Mostly because alcohol gives me headaches, which worsen if I try to use my eyes.)

i like to drink say 2 beers while painting. but if i am really drunk i cant draw cause i have no patience then. so if i would try to paint some details, i'd lose my nerves quickly and waste the whole picture perhaps its a good approach to do abstract art when you are drunk ?
drinking dont cause headache to me... only in the next morning :-/

I don't.
I guess I don't need it. Mentioned that in another thread already.

As my friends demonstrated two years or so ago:
Just don't do it, OK?
Oh, now I remember - they'd also been smoking megnut, which is hallusinogenic. But then they're not exactly right in the head in the first place, as faustgfx can verify.

I have never drank while I was working so I cant say what that's like. I only drink when I'm with my mom, so when she hits me I wont feel it. |

Well, as far as I'm concerned, smoothening those folds in cerebral tissue might relieve stress, it won't help the imagination.
Don't take my word for it - let's wait for more replies, and tally those who drink (excessively) with their degree of artistic talent.
Just being empirical. |

Drunk people make stupid things & act like idiots. Every time. So, no alcohol for me.
Staying sober saves me some money for art supplies, ha.
Haha, lechuck is right. And I don't care how much fun you had before you lost your shoes/wallet/cell phone last weekend. No offense, but those seemed to go missing very often in the ring of people i used to know.
edit:
and hah, the quotes enayla posted on the alcohol thread sound very familiar.

Ales and lagers are my favorite drinks. I have a few every other night.

I like to drink wine on occasions, and a few mixed drinks. I don't do it all the time. But when the weekend comes around I might toss back a few and get a mild buzz. And the weekend are usually my more productive days too. So drinking might help, It calms the mind. I rarly drink enough to have a hangover. But then again it will make you sleepy after a long day though. Thats if your like me when you like the night and work on most of the work during the night. Was I rambling Oh well. I'll plan on drinking loads this weekend though, My wifes 25th Birthday. Whoo Hoo! Belch...
