Currently, I am in my last quarter of art school for computer animation.. and I am only 19, I will be 19 when I gradute. So my problem lays in my age, it seems intimedating going into an field as big as gaming industry at such a young age. How do big companys view youth?
I have a couple of friends that are my age, work in a corprate environment, and are single out because of age...
Does the industry view youth as being a gamble? And how should I prepare before I start my career?
thanks

If you do good work, how can they complain? Particularly in the gaming industry, what they're looking to hire is talent. |

Are you kidding me? The game industry is THE place for young artists. I know PLENTY of guys around your age that are doing kickass work int the biz. It's all in your portfolio and how well you do during the interview. Dress casual, bring your best work, appear responsible/hardworking/easy to work with(team player)/passionate about games, and have a good sense of humor. That's it, the secret to getting a job in the biz. |

Hello,
I find the gaming industry to be biased towards anyone over the age of 25!:-) A person who is 30 is considered over the bend. The management is the only area, in my experience, where you might find 30 and overs. Why so young you ask? Well gaming companies love to pluck those young, fresh faced, full of ideas, artists off the tree. The better to work them 12-16 hours a day!:-) I'm dead serious. As a matter of fact the company I was at didn't even have a health plan for children and families because they didn't anticipate their employees getting married or having families:-) At any rate, if you are young (and good at what you do) there is definitely space for you. Regards |
