I just got back from the "Ontario Collage Of Arts and Design" Portfolio day, incase you don't know what that is, it's when a bunch of school representatives come and check out your portfolios, you could bring in your drawing and painting or whatever and you could discuss them with those school reps, such are reps from Shariden (had the biggest line up, 3 hours at least), other schools from Toronto, VAncuver, New York, San Fransisco, and other parts of north america. I have to say it was a very educational experiance, even thougth there were hundreds of more people out there, especially with more skill then I have it made me feel liek I should persue a future in the arts.
I didn't have a portfolio to show off but I did talk a big with some of the teachers and reps from other schools there, Not to mention sneaking into some classes and watch people do there think.
I'm going back next year for sure, with a portfolio thought
If you went or have a comment please reply, i woudl love to discuss this topic a bit more. |

Just curious...
How old are you?
What did it look like was the main thing the reps were looking for in a good portfolio?
More of a general question, how would you go about displaying a peice of digital artwork in a portfolio? Bring the PSD to a print shop? just curious
Thanks

Hey Blithe,
I've been to the OCAD "Portfolio Day" a few times when I was in high school. It was a really cool experience. I considered applying to OCAD, but the people are what turned me away. The students at OCAD have gotta be the most stuck-up, pretencious goofs you'll ever meet. Eventually, I got into the illustration program at Sheridan (2 years ago).
Blah blah, long story.. but for the most part, the reps from different schools really want to see traditional proficiency in your portfolio. It doesn't matter what program you're applying for, you should have strong fundamentals. Still though, digital pieces are not banned from display. I'm fortunate enough to have a laser colour printer, so printing my digital stuff in high quality wasn't a big issue. But, if you didn't have a printer capable of doing your work justice, you could take it to a print shop, just don't bring a .PSD, use something a bit more universal.. like a TIFF. Anyway, yea.. just thought I'd comment.. |
