This is a question brought on by several earlier posts. I find that my digital work is far superior to my traditional work(like pencil, for example). I attribute it to Photoshop's many tools, especially the 'undo' tool. I know there is no true answer here, but I want to hear your opinion. How much artistic credibility do I really have if I am dependant on Photoshop? |

Dependency? I don't think using photoshop'll make you dependant. You'll notice that the more experience you gain, the less you will resort to "undos". If you feel that you need prove this to yourself, alternately use digital and traditional media; you probably will see improvements in both. |

Hmmm. What if an artist is waaaay better at watercolors than oils? How much credibility does he/she have as a watercolorist?
Don't worry. If it's good, it's good. |

Yeah... but in certain traditional areas of the art world, credibility is a serious issue when it comes to digital work. I find it both sad and hysterical that many galleries will absolutely not consider dealing with digital work... and ironic that some of them have a strong presence on the web... |

good work is good work. having better tools doesnt make work less credible, it makes it more challenging since better quality work will be expected. also keep in mind youre mixing many different media on photoshop in a way you cant do normally, so its just making things more interesting, bending the rules |

Color mixing and so forth isn't easy at all in photoshop, just as it isn't in real life. And said before in this post you will improve in all aspects of art, simply because you learn to use your eyes, and take note of different details.
I noticed this on my own body. It was however 3d modelling and rendering that made me open my eyes, just as if I had done real life painting (not that I'm at all there ofcourse).
Sitting here thinking aloud, I seem to remember however that I still draw SOME things worse than I once did....
Hmm...
