I've seen a lot of forums where you can have your very own avatar. I'd like to see it in this forum to. What do you think?
...I'd just love to draw/animate my own image. It would give a much more personal feeling and people would easily remember you by your picture/anim. |

Just my opinion, but a page with a bunch of forever looping little graphics / animations would drive me nuts. I could live with a static image...perhaps.

Perhaps an avatar would be best served on the user's profile page. |

I agree. I'm so glad this place isn't using avatars or image signatures. There's just too many people to permit this. Long load time, trafic hogger, etc.
I like the sober apearance of the forum. Kind of keeps the focus on the actual displayed artwork or comment |

And additionally - most of the picture sigs & avatar stuff annoys the living crap out of me.
Don't waste your time on lame-atars, make bigger images! Paint! Paint! Paint!

I dont' really mind avatars, as long as they are very small and under 10k in size. I actually think relating the person to an image is a cool psychological phenomenon. It gives that person more "personality." |

Ugh, no avatars, please. That's one reason I prefer this forum. I can't stand waiting forever for a page to load and realizing it's because of someone's lame gif animation. |

Im glad that this forum doesnt have avatars. Its a blessing.
Sure some of the avatars used in other forums are funny, but for exactly one time. After that they get so damn annoying and only slow down loading, especially bad for dial-up users.
I hope nobody will allow avatars in here, as probably most will have crappy, annoying or whatever ones. |

Signature pictures are lame. This topic comes every month or so, too. |

I also would hate it if this site had avatars.
This is btw. the reason why I do not visit eatpoo.com. Those things drive me nuts and many of them are so ugly that I just cant look at them. |

Yea, that's the same reason I don't visit eatpoo much either. Avatars are distracting, annoying, and sometimes disgusting. To each their own, but they turn many people off. |

while i agree with lunatique that visual pic are definitely a cool way to identify someone, i also know sedone's pain, seeing as i'm on 56k dialup... o_O
on a related (sort of) note, what exactly was it that happened to dhabih? (it's been several months since i last visited) |

I love avatars even though I am on a 56k, once you have all the regulars in your system cache, it's no big deal
besides.. how could you forget a face like this? haha *see below

PLEASE! No avatars! Ugh... can you imagine how they would be abused in here? Some of the threads in here get HUGE. 50 individual replies each with a 10k avatar comes to 500kb. Why wait for that to DL when I want to be looking at people's art? |

Well, I don't mind avatars. Helps me remember who I've seen before. I'm hopeless with names. But, on the other hand, they can be a pain in the ass. Long load times, lot's of bad, flashy animations, and one or two pimple infested teenagers.
Anyhow... Look at my nice avatar:
Basse Extraordinaire
(Just so I won't become the next Senate, this picture is originally a traced photo I took myself. It's, well... about three or four steps away from the photo though).
(It's nice anyhow). |

avatars rule. same reasoning as Basse_Ex. the excess strain on the bandwidth is so miniscule that anyone who complains should have all images turned off while browsing. once youve seen them all they do not need to DL again. they are tiny. they help to visually identify people. they are often humourous. they are overall benificial when not abused. if you dont like them its probably cuz they, like women, didnt like you first. |

No to avatars, especially animated ones! While on the subject, how come the signature accepts inline, animated, images? (hello jesusclone :-) |

I think it's funny people are actually voting when all of the people who have been here for awhile know that nothing will come of it....the dhabib doesn't even come here anymore..but oh well...
get over it...there will never be "avatars" here for the forseeable future. |
