I'm trying to get better at working things out in a sketch before I start coloring. So I don't end up having to seriously alter the picture later...In this is a sketch I tried to work out how I was going to do some of the lighting too. I'd really appreciate any help you could give me on the shadows (which I kinda guessed at), anatomy (I'm not sure about the legs), or anything else you think looks weird. Thanks.

hi there.. one thing i'd like to point out before you paint it. Shouldnt the scabbard be on his rightside? Since he's holding the sabre/katana with his left hand.. i would think it highly unlikely that he could pull his sword out quickly and efficiently if it was on his left side..
Just my $0.02 ...
As for painting tips.. i shall leave that to the "masters" of the forum.
great sketch overall

Laemtao, your probably right about the scabbard. However, I like the way it looks now (hmm). Your comment also brought to my attention that I made him left-handed when he's supposed to be right-handed >_< (maybe I could just flip the whole thing horizontally). |
