I don't know enough about this to know quite wether it's blatant plagiarism, or paranoia from the "Disney is to blame for everything" brigade, but the similarities do sound a little suspicious.
If it is plagiarism then it wouldn't be the first time it's happened. "Lion King" was ripped directly from a Japanese 'toon called "Jungle Emperor Leo", for example. Even "Resevoir Dogs" was lifted straight from the Hong Kong flick "City on Fire". What these cases have in common is that the original creators simply don't have the lawyers/ money/ resources to fight with companies like Disney or any of the big Hollywood studios.
It's just an example of how our laws are designed to protect the powerful from the weak, and rarely the other way around. |

now I want to see both.
Still, Disney did get Mike Mignola to do some sweet designs, so I think I'm more eager to that one. |

hmmm... lets see.
smells like a rip-off,
looks like a rip-off,
sounds like a rip-off,
Story is the same,
Characters are the same,
Setting is the same,
Nope, that wholesome company Disney would never do that. |
