Hello again...
This is another thing thats been bothering me for some time now..
I'm quite new to coloring on the computer, so any basic tips or trix are welcome.
Here's the problem:
I start of with some sketches, and when I'm satisfied with one of them I decide to color it. After a while of coloring I step back and I'm not at all satisfied with the result. Either they are to funky or cartoonish or just plain uggly.
Feel free to color anyone of my bw drawings. I don't know if they are to messy to work on, but you can give it a try
It's a Roman guy and an Egyptian, in case you don't see.
Here's the original scan of the Egyptian:

Lot's of stuff

I think the problem you are facing seems to be no light source. Like the character is illuminated from many sides equally. You probably need to decide a point of light source(top, bottom, left, right or bottom etc etc)
You should also clean the sketches a little more before coloring, at least if you want to include the sketches into the picture.
Hope this helps in some way. |

Im not a master of coloring. but a have a few techniques that i use.
I mostly just use the paintbrush but sometimes the airbrush too.
I have opacity presure switched on, so i can control the "hardness" of the color im useing. A good thing if you want to mix colors.
Here are a few quickie paintings i made as an example. Nothing much but atleast something to demonstrate the technique.
Heh, sorry about the legs on this one :)
Bit i liked how the chest and head area turned out. You learn something new on every painting :)
This is a quickie (5 min) but i think this painting shows more of the technique.
And yeah, i changed it a bit, hope you dont mind ;)
But baisicly you have to train and train and train.
Hope you found this helpfull. |

I'll try it!
You've got a nice drawing technique!
Do you use to work with lines and then color the shetch like I did? I find that quite enoying, using lines that is. Not using lines gives the drawing a whole different feeling, but it's hard :/ |

Mostly i dont but i really should, guidelines are always good when yout painting. They give you a better overview how the painting will look like when you start painting. But i guess its a matter of skill.
I hope that i one day can just draw the stuff i have in my head and be happy with the result.
But as i said before, its just a matter of trainging.
Glad you liked it :) |
