Its bigger than a bee and can live in temperatures as low as 2C.

Thanks!

I could draw some insect details... but all the pictures posted up there are actual drawing size.. so I cant post bigger versions of them unfortunately.

thanks Jezebel

I guess the last one looks most finished because I had to start it 5 times-
Photoshop always crashed after some time until i found out that it was icq that makes it crash.
So.. I kind of practiced the last one 5 times before I finally could finish it

Eeep, these creep me out!

Not the bumblebee though - I love those. Very nice rendered insects! I could never draw those...

How about a dragonfly maybe?

NEX -

I love these - I really dig the design elements of bug/beetles/insects, so this thread rules... Where did you get the reference pics... I've been looking for a good bug book for a while...

Keep up[ the awesome work!

Thanks!

I used reference pictures from books, a video tape about the rainforest and pictures from a few .edu sites.
Its pretty hard to find anything more specific than "bee" or "spider" though.
The above pictures were made combining about 4 or 5 reference pictures each to a painting.

[edit: this here is a rather useful link: ]http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/insects/printouts.shtml]

Here is the dragonfly (finally):
The wings were a lot of work.. altough they may not look like it.

this time I worked in 1500x1000 or something and scaled down.
