Ok, I just had it with those cloud, grass, water and chainmail details. I'll just post this and move on.
Again, there's some suspicious sh*t going on with the character's feet but don't let it bother you.
I'm planning to concentrate on some character design now so this scenery stuff is out the door for a while... umm.. I mean there will be no landscapes part three very soon.
Please don't hesitate to post a sincere comment. Thanks.

I like the clouds, maybe a touch too bright but I still like it. The only issue I see with the water is that it dosn't look flat. It looks like it slopes up the shore.
Cool.

if this painting was for a book cover or poster i think it has everything i would want to see.
i was going to suggest that the castle could be more interesting, except you're treating it as part of the landscape rather than a destination, so keep as is.
hey, i just like the picture. its a nice solemn retreat.

i'll add one small thing...my eye doesn't want to move around the page. it gets stuck in the clouds.

Hey I think my eye does the same thing with the clouds, I think it's just because they are so perdominant (i'm trying to sound smart except i can't even spell it, haha). Also his spear is pointing right up to them, kinda brings my attention up there. But about the clouds I really like them, everyone will know they are clouds, they're definately painted, who says they have to be photo realistic (unless that's what YOU wanted).
Ya and his feet/legs kinda look funky like he's about to fall over. But other than that this is really great, I like it.

beautiful work on those clouds
about the water though... the reflections should be running with the horizon.. at the minute it looks like there is a bend in it to the left.. but it does look like water and the overall pic est tres bon!!! |

Very nice, I like it better than your first. And I really appreciate pics with well-done backgrounds, the setting says something about the character as much as the outfit.
I agree that the clouds draw the viewer's draw attention, the brightness, the sharp contrast between the clouds and sky above, the spear pointing up there (that thing must be tough to carry ) They look nice though, not sure what to do about it. If you ever feel inspired for a challenge, I think nice big flying dragon in front of the clouds would do the trick |

You know, you're right. I definitely got a bit "high" with those clouds and now they're obviously drawing too much attention. Next time I'll try to shift that focus elsewhere from those extra-detailed backgrounds, thanks for pointing that out. I'll do my homework on this for sure. (mental note: blur and desaturate the clouds )
The lake-thingy is my first attempt to create water in color, so it isn't exactly how I wanted it to look like. I'll be working on that in the future, and as well the perspective, lighting & DoF-stuff. I guess I'll be making a bit more accurate plans with the next picture.
Hmm... I just noticed I forgot to reply on my earlier landscape-whateveritis comments. So everyone, thanks for the feedback! |

Consider me a fan of your landscape work, Sarge. You're doing exactly the kind of thing I HOPE to be doing by this summer, assuming I get the hang of this digital thing.
I agree with a number of comments that have been made, but here are some extras: I love the grass! That looks like it took forever. I think the figure is great, and the feet are easy to forgive. I have a bit of a problem with the way he is holding the spear though...it just looks to me like a very unnatural position to hold it in. If his hand is going to be up that high, I would expect the shaft to be straighter so there is less weight to support.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing some straight character work from you.
