I've just started doing some landscapes in a "fine art" mode using a Wacom and Photoshop. I'm not totally happy with this one, but it seems to be a good start... Learned some things from it at any rate...
GREAT!!! to have Sijun back online...

I was writing this big huge lecture on landscapes for this post, but I decided to delete it and just shoot some straight pointers and questions.
1) Improve the composition a little. Right now the focal point is the odd burst of bright nothing in the near-center of the picture. Stick an old twisted dead oak or something right where the trees converge. It'll give a little realism and atmosphere to the picture. My eyes are gretting thrown around, following the tops of the trees and the perspective of the lake up to this empty spot, and it makes the picture a teensy bit boring with nothing there.
2) Work on the tonal quality of your trees a little better. They have more grey, and they should be darker, especially since you're looking into the sun.
3) I like how you have a little distant meadow visible behind the trees in the background.
4) Did you draw this at this location? Or did you just think this up out of your head?
5) A nice picture, overall. |

Impaler,
Good comments. Can't disagree with any of them. I'm still working on the image, but also feel like putting the cap on it and moving on to a new one.
"Did you draw this at this location? Or did you just think this up out of your head?"
A bit of both. I used a photo that I had stitched together from 4 photos taken as a panorama. This one...
"Out'a my head" came from a similar scene from my childhood on a sheep farm with a river running through. Sheep keep the underbrush cut close to the ground. The farm was in NW Virginia.

Flea,
Beautiful landscape. I really like the sorta hatching quality of your lines seen throughout the image. The colors are beautiful too. When I look at the picture I can sense warmth and humidity. Good work
