I feel this one could have used a lot more work, but I also feel that its time to move on from it. I honestly don't know what I am doing wrong, but it takes me way too long to paint anything. Maybe its because I simply need more experience and spend largers chunks of uninterrupted time on them. This one is the first one on a series I am planning, although the styles between them might vary a bit. the next one for example will use some 3D and then put through photoshop editing.
Anyways, comments/critique/suggestions are always welcome and look forward to them.
programs/tools: photoshop and a wacom
here is a detail of some of the work:
btw, the 'I' on the title is a roman numeral, not 'I' as in me, in case that confuses anyone. |

thanks!
yes, giger is definitelly one of the artists whose work I admire, but I try as much as possible to experiment a bit and just put what feels good.
As far as the crispness and contrast, I really feel this was a piece that was not done at all, but I just couldnt get myself to work anymore on it, and to avoid it joining all the other unfinished pieces i had, i decided to just stop. I don't know right now if i will regret that but oh well.
I will be trying to finish at least one of the ones in storage before jumping on the second 'dreammachine', not sure if before i work on the page. As a matter of fact, I might just put a couple of those in the work in progress gallery. a couple of them i had posted (in their current condition) on a different forum, might be interesting to see what sort of comments I get here for them. |

Hey - that's very cool! I like the coloration - kinda reminds me of Saffron (where the heck is this guy anyway these days).
I also like that you didn't do a Giger ripoff - it certainly looks inspired by him, but has many original features.
It could be a little bit crisper and have more contrast, but that might be a matter of personal preference.
Show us more of your work!

Well... the motive is not so easy to describe... after all it's not a still life of an apple on a table or so ;-)
I think the transitions between the different alien parts should be more detailled... for example i'd say the shadow on the upper part of that yellow alien nose thingy (sorry, donno how to adress better ;-) is too short and too less intense... therefore it looses a bit of it's body... or better said: the transition looks a bit like "painted on". And the highlights could be a bit more intense.
I hope my critic helps... |
