..and it's a failure. It turned out nothing like I had hoped. Maybe I should stick to photography as I can't paint well enough to save my life.
I have the horrible habit of painting too stiff. I tried to break that bad habit, but even with a gun pointed to my head, I still paint like a fucking zombie.
The hair looks like shit. I can't paint hair. |

excuse me sir, what have you failed? The image looks perfect, so does her face. Oh, I forgot to say that the snow texture on her coat kicks ass. |

You had an earlier version of the pic in the 'under progress' section, right? I thought you had it better back at that stage, now it seems to lack mood somehow. Don't get me wrong here, the shapes and the face are great, but somehow it doesn't have that one thing that would make it a truly great pic. If you ask me, I'd move her a bit to the right to make the composition some balance and add contrast and some color to the whole image. Also I feel the clouds/mists are too detailed, they imo should be just blurred fog, if you know what I mean.
That said, you still have a great face and hood there - more potential than what it currently portrays, in my opinion. |

Lunaaaa!! *fwaps you upside the head with a pillow*
This looks really nice!! I think the girl's face it really beautiful and delicate. It exhibits that romantic flair you're so famous for. *grin*
I think the lighting is pretty off and the background is a bit distracting, but those are things that can be fairly easily corrected. The lovely face would make the extra work very worthwhile.
And I don't know what you're talking about with the "hair looking like shit". The hair is especially beautiful.
Chin up Luna, this is very pretty |

Dr.(gang)Bang- Hey, thanks for the kind words. I just had really high expectations for myself, that's all. It sucks when you can't paint what you see in your head.
A.Buttle- Wait--I'm n--- *dies*
Marvel- *sigh* Yeah, I know. The original sketch had all kinds of potential, then I fucked it up.
Jezebel- ouch! *rubs head*
"It exhibits that romantic flair you're so famous for."
WHAT romantic flair. Dr. Bang refers to me as the official Sijun PIMP, if you havn't noticed? *tips his feathered pimp hat and shows his gold tooth.* "YO! Where's my money, Biatch?"
Thanks for making me feel better. Hopefully the next attempt will be more fruitful. |

I agree with all the other posts here, and also - I think the cropped closeup looks better than the original (it's beautiful!!), I think it may be the cloud texture and the snow texture are too similar to each other, and too 'homogenous'... hard to explain, but it looks like stippling, a technique I personally don't like very much. Fine for German Luftwaffe camouflage, but not for much else...
I understand your frustration, I feel it every day, but at least you have a good excuse..! |

I saw that you wanted the more advanced people to give you crits, but if you want my complete newbie comments, here they are:
I think what makes the finished pic look less fantastic is that you've used much colder colors on her face somehow... the sketch in WIP had warmer skintones to it, and it contrasted very nicely with the dark cape... perhaps if you removed some snow from her cape and let the dark show through more?
plus you've made the (our) right cheek much more prominent in the finished version, which imoho looks a little worse...
other then that I think it's fecking amazing!
Great work! |

geeze i wish i could draw and paint people that well. i'm working at it, but not at your level yet. i suggest you don't stop, because it will just get better if you keep working at it and learn from what went wrong.
the things i really like about your pic is the velvet look to her coat and that sort of contrasts to the smooth skin on her face. the subtle expression on her face is quite nice too.
the things i don't like as much is the background. the colours are fine. helps create that cold feeling i think, but maybe it would help to have some differnt shades of blue. some closer to being purple and some closer to green and all that in between of course.
anyways. it's still a good painting. hope to see more. |
