Hi everyone,

I was asked to do this cover for a games publication of some sort which is being managed by the university I'm going to (University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland).

They pretty much gave me free hands but suggested that I included fruit and used the manga style. Now manga isn't my preferred style (this is), but I'm fairly satisfied with how it turned out.

Okay, so I'm damn proud is what I am! I've never really done anything this big or in color before, so there!!

But yeah, if you want to leave some feedback or critique that'd be great, I'm really interested in hearing what you might have to say.

Let me just say that I know that the tree seems sort of not really attached to the ground, but I was under a fairly strict timeline and never got around to that part...

And let me know what you think of the colors on her, because I'm not sure they're quite the optimal choice.

Thanks in advance.

- Mike

Edited: Corrected the link, thanks dude

The link to your prefered stuff was dead, but, like you, I generally dislike manga..

But what you've done is much more bearable than most I see, nice and clean. The colours are fine imo, well, suited if not fine

The only real objection was the one you mentioned, the tree seems to floating, disjounted from the ground..

it doesn't ruin it though, there's enough info in there to read clearly.. nice job.

one thing that I didn't realise at first, was that she was reaching up, her hand touching the orange.. I think this is caused by the thick black outline around the branch vs her intricate linework.. failing that, curling her fingers around as if grasping for the fruit may have helped.. but this is a v.minor crit.

If that wouldn't remedy it, maybe it is something in her stance, her right arm seems to be a little too elevated for the reaching motion I am reading (perhaps caused by the assumed height of the tree.. was it intended to seem so large? is she really straining to reach the orange?)

Not to bad at all...and doing studies or projects that are "Out of Style" as in not normal to the way you draw etc is hard to do...and you've done well .

Kay.

P.S. I work as a Texture and concept artist for Rage Games Scotland ( now known as Real Time Worlds ) in Dundee . Small world aint it .

The orange should've been higher up, I just realized

That's what you get for spending too much time in front of it...

But yeah, she's supposed to be straining to get it.

The reason I might add, for her eyes to be focused on the viewer and not the orange was a preference from the guy who commissioned it. Well he suggested it anyway. Might look better with her eyes on the orange instead though...

It indeed is a small world! So you a native dundonian or...? Personally I'm from Denmark, here for two years (first of the two) studying Computer Arts. (Which for the most part is pants, but this job helps me vent my creativity a bit )

But hey, if you need some assistance with some stuff, gimme a shout, hehe

Back to the picture.
It was a really good excercize to do something so different from what I normally dabble in. Flexing a bit
