Hey everyone, well, Ive posted a a few times on this forums, you might remember my dumb looking tree picture (which I am working my butt of to look right). I need to learn how to paint in photoshop, I don't mean color theory or anything, I actually mean the process. I see some photoshop paintings on these forums that look like they have strokes, some that look photo realistic, but can someone give me a nice small tutorial on the easiest brushes to use, and the methods you use when you want to add value and different shades to the painting? The best I can do to paint in photoshop is get a bunch of ugly strokes that don't look like they fade into eachother well at all, and all my stuff ends up looking like a cartoon...help me, please :::tear:::
PS: Do you guys use photoshop or painter for you paintings?

There are many topics in Digital Art Discussion section you could check out, I find Mr. Seegmiller's tutorial particularly helpful. Maybe you could also post a pic so people can help out?
Don't give up, read any tutorials you can and keep practicing. |

hi, I used to have the same problem so i know pretty well what u mean, my advice would be: use the airbrush tool and play with transparency values so that u can get the colors merging with different values... that way u can gradually go from one color to another with a richer palette... it sounds simple but try it and u'll see how powerful it can be... |

i have one but it's in geocities and it is most of the time down... with some luck i'll be moving to a new host any of these days...
u can see some of my work posted here but it won't be very helpful for this thread because so far my pictures are pretty flat... as I said before I used to have the same problem as u... they r line art colored instead of paintings... Im still learning and testing new techniques, Im just about to finish my first digital painting (not a colored drawing like the others)... hopefully Ill finish it this weekend (if Im not to lazy he he) and i'll post it here... : )
btw i use corel photopaint instead of photoshop but the main tools r almost the same... |
