lo peeps. for the last months, i have been checking sijun and saw awesome funky stuff here and there, it's a neat place for sure. and i felt i had to participate, even though i'm not allowed to show much of my art stuff.(as usual)
my nick is nicolas "sparth" bouvier, i have been working in the videogame industry for the last 6 years. last three years designing "alone in the dark 4" mainly.
since the last few months, i found the time to finally do stuff for myself. just finished a small site that i'll update often. http://perso.wanadoo.fr/arth/
here's my latest photoshop painting, done in 7 hours. i also took the time to describe my humble creation process, here: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/arth/hiddenindustryprocess.htm
last thing, for the quake3 freaks, my level editing site is here: http://www.planetquake.com/nunuk/ |

Nice work. I took a look at your process too. I'm curious as to why you used the watercolour filter at stage 10. did you do it on the background? The way I see it is that it removes tones and increases contrast and shape definition. You can do stuff like that with the filter>noise>dust & scratches or the median filter. Just in case you wanted to experiment more with that technique. Is this why you used the filter? to do a sharpening up of shapes? |

ian, i guess i use the water color filter in a "love and hate" situation. there's something about the contrasts, while using this filter, that i find very rich, richer than if i had used other filters. indeed, without bluring your image, you obtain new tones, but i use it especially to sharpen the foreground. i could have messed up with levels too.
on the other hand, watercolor, if overused, can definitely "sink" a painting. for this reason, i add a layer with the watercolor filter on the whole image, and then i erase it in areas where the filter shouldn't appear. i had previously pasted the original image in the background. the result is a mix between the two layers, quite simple.
using median can give good results, but i guess you loose your dark tones fast, unlike watercolor. the bluring can become dangerous too!
thanx to all of u peeps. i'm very happy to participate and finding the time and inspiration to do more stuff soon. |

K, thx for the info. I would also be wary of relying on it, perhaps its best left to subtle changes and 'testing'.
Looks like you have experimented with those filters more than me, median and dust and scrathes definetely blurs. I hadn't realise the watercolour filter could do a similar thing yet sustain contrast and range better.
Welcome to the forum. I'll cya 'round. |
