...and this is what I had when the smoke cleared. The anatomy is a little weird, especially in the neck I think, but no reference = weird anatomy. This isn't even a real person. This was done in Painter 7 with a marker brush that I have customized to act like on oil brush.

I hope you don't take offence to this, but I find this to be head and shoulders above all of your Photoshop work. Your values are gorgeous, and you weren't afraid to push your palette. The collar bone looks really well done, and I like the overall painterly feel. I definitely think you should continue exploring Painter. It is bringing out the best in your work.
A quick question, are you using Painter7 with Windows XP? I've been having problems running it on XP, and it's really bothering me. |

Elephant: Thanks for the compliment. I know my Photoshop work certainly looks different than my painter work. I think I use Photoshop so much because I'm more used to it, but I love Painter too and I'll keep working with it.
Yes, I am using Painter 7 with Windows XP. I haven't had any problems with it myself. What are you having trouble with?
plastikman: Ah yes, the ear. If I had a dime for every time I was told the ear looked funny, I... well you know the story. The ear is the one human feature that I just can't seem to get. It is for this very reason that all my other characters have long hair. |

Hey, I have a problem with ears, too.. I mean painting ears. They're complicated, arent' they? Really a nice work. I like the colour work in this and the outline made with this marker. Nice effect. |

*update* I went back this morning and tried to fix the ear and the neck. They look okay now, I hope.
Mchal: Thanks! Yes, ears. Curse that human feature.
Juan-Philipo: Thanks a bunch! I think the reason I draw this character a lot is because he's a good excuse to draw funky, spikey hair.
Max Kulich: Thank you! |

Keep practicing ears. Find a ref on google.com and keep trying. If you get that down, you'll be fine . Lovely image. Wish I knew how to do stuff like this in Photoshop, because Painter just seems better at this kind of image .
