Hey, Ive always had difficulties scanning things into my computer, whether it be pictures, articles, drawings, etc....
I decided to scan in a newspaper article i found in today's local paper on UT2k3, and was trying to piddle with my scanner settings.
Now, When I scan, I tried scanning in 100DPI colour mode and 100DPI Greayscale. Turns out that greyscale was a bigger filesize. BUT! at 100dpi, this article was unreadable.
So I tried scanning in at 150DPi in both colour and greyscale, and the files came to about 440kb~470kb. This is not a huge article, well, lengthy a bit, but you can get a guess for the size of it by looking at the posted pic below. I have some compression program my friend sent me, and got it down to 300kb-ish.
So what are some good pointers in using my scanner for general purpose, like scanning in newspaper articles. I thought 100DPI was supposed to be relatively the same size as the actual copy..... and why is the greyscale size bigger than the colour file???!?!?
Here's the link if it doesnt work (Yes, it appears to be a TXT file, but it is a picture file if you try loading it...)

(compressed file at 150dpi, colour mode)
Note : It may not work b/c of TBNS image thinggy...... oie.... ill try to get my t35 account up and running...
Btw, I have a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4300C scanner (USB), and I used the default Windows scanning wizard to acquire my images.
(Windows desktop resolution @ 1024x768 32bit. and this picture is still WAYYYYY TOO HUGE to fit my screen, which is sort of understandable....) _________________ Just remember, when in doubt, even monkeys fall from trees sometimes. |
