Okay...this is very odd indeed...at least for my life.
Today was "Take Your Kids to Work" day, and I was going with a friend who works as a naval architect. We started talking about computers and stuff, then I mentioned that I wished I had a tablet. Suddenly:
"Oh, I could probably get you one of those for free. We used to use them for work, but now we just use the mouse. You may have to buy the pen if I can't find one, though."
Now I just get to hope he can get me one...at the moment, I haven't got any information besides what I've just stated. _________________ ~Gio

Might be a drafting tablet and not a graphics tablet, you know. Might not want to get your hopes up too high. _________________ QED, sort of. |

Back at university they removed all tablets ("digitizers") from a mechanical engineering lab where I sometimes checked my mail. I asked one of the teachers what had happened. He said when they changed software to AutoCad r14(?), plain old mice worked just as well and the tablets weren't needed.
I was allowed to buy one rather cheap, and I was hoping digital painting would work out now that I could drop the mouse. Unfortunately it would take some years(!) before I even tried it (actually, before painting anything).
The tablet was huge and never used, almost A2 (~22"x16"?) and came with a "puck" (kind of mouse) and a stylus (attached to a cable of course). No pressure sensitivity. The drivers weren't that good, and there were none for Windows2000. But the manual was great and included the serial protocol and I wrote my own software. It worked but was never really finished (had to change a constant and recompile to get a different configuration).
Well, later I bought a real Intous and needless to say, it's better. But indeed, do get one if it's free.... could probably not be worse than my old board (for sale, delphi hack included ). |
