Heh. Reminds me of some time on Planetquake where they compared screenshots of Quake 2 taken in 16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit (on a TNT2, I think). They couldn't figure out why the 32-bit shots showed no marked improvement.
Anyways, this brings up an interesting point in video games: What role do graphics play in a video game? Do they relate to gameplay? _________________ QED, sort of. |

In colorful games like UT 32-bit mode doesnt make much sense, there arent many graduations smooth enough to notice the difference in the first place, and then the gameplay is way too fast anyway...
in other games 32bit color do make a huge difference, for example Aquanox2 is downright ugly in 16bit, since the game lives on brownish-blue hues (the underwater thingie). In games where you have no horizon, the difference probably isnt going to be noticeable. |

Heh, for your last question i think of osmething like this.... the graphics and everything are bells and whistles to brag about you know. it's the very same reason we have sex with hot people rather than ugly people even though their.... "gameplay" is the same _________________ AIM: EviLToYLeT |

"32 bpp" is actually 24 bit color aligned on 32 bit boundaries. It does NOT mean the cards are capable of 32 bit color, they still display 24 bit color (16,777,216 colors). |
Of course there's a noticable improvement 'tween 16 and 24 bit, but 24 and 32...? maybe in performance... but not visually... |

I'm pretty sure you need a geoforce 3 to truly apperciate all the dynamic lighting, or somthing along the lines of that. I may be wrong. I'm able to get 40fps avg in ut2k3 with
pentium 3 733@825
128 megs sdram goodness
stock geoforce 2 mx400
20 gig drive, 5400 rpm (not that it really matters)
xp pro.
if you don't belive, then its a shame for you, because I'm really not up for a large discussion on why I'm a big fat liar and although you don't have proof, your all knowing powers are never wrong. The 40fps is monitored by typing stat fps in the console.
edit- forgot to mention that I'm playing at 800x600, and that I don't know why the hell I just posted that in the first place, I must be too egar to show off my good fps. Sorry. |
