hey have you installed that yet? because I'm currently using a warez program to do my work under windows, but i'm feeling bad about it, and i've tried gimp under windows... And even if gimp's tablet support sucks under windows, I hear tablets do work pretty good under linux as well? So far I haven't met anyone using a tablet in linux, the only stuff i've heard is hearsay. and I do wanna move to linux... Or even freebsd, but that's something I know nothing about |

I'm not sure GIMP has support for the USB tablets, which is a shame
But you could still use it without presure sensativity...
Yeah, my problem with installation so far is that it has lotsa trouble with the USB tablets. |

USB is supported in your kernel. If that's working, it will work in GIMP.
You need kernel 2.4 or greater.
Have you read this?
Pressure sensitivity is enabled with the Wacom driver. Gimp has it's own driver for pressure tablets, so you may need to tweak that some. |

Ugh, all that pointless searching through google when all I needed was that, a lot more simplified then that other website.. THANK YOU.
Right now I'm a bit busy trying to get my new video card going, but thats still a good help. Didn't it say in the GIMP docs that it has little to no USB tablet support?
/me needs to reread it |

in gimp version 1.2.x readme (or the gimp website) it said that tablets are supported in gimp to most extent under linux, but the windows version has buggy tablet support. And you can really see that... *ugh* the menus close automatically within a millisecond, and instead of recognizing a long brushstroke it seems to consider that every millisecond or so the pen is touching the tablet is a separate click. Pressure sensitivity works, but all it does is dots that are a great deal separate from each other... The pressure did affect the size and opacity though just as i set it :P
Can't wait to try it under linux... It'll be a hard job for someone who knows pretty much nothing about linux, but thank god my boyfriend knows more about it than me. Still 1 more month before I'll install linux... My own computer isn't online for a month and I can't yet access the help docs and so forth, and I can't update stuff.
and thanks for the help elam, that document was well appreciated. *e-mails the url to herself* |
